Astrology of 2021

Overview

20212021 is not the endurance ordeal of 2020 but there is no point in pretending that 2021 is the reward for getting through the last year. This year has more positive highlights and things are moving along at a much faster pace now so we can get a better feel of what we have to work with.

It could be a bit of a roller coaster ride as we adjust and re-adjust to all the dynamics that are on the Astro schedule this year. We get a good mid-year taster of some of the benefits coming along in 2022 but we’ll have to wait until 2023 to feel we have come through and out the other side of something big. 2021 brings many twists and turns and some unexpected events that alter the course of our lives to varying degrees, but we have plenty to be optimistic about as long as we stay with the Aquarius trend of the current times. Taking a step back from the emotive scenes we are bombarded with through the media and getting some perspective that reconnects you to your local reality and your community is the best remedy for any of this year’s turbulence. Being open-minded, open-hearted and allowing the creative solutions to flow is the way to make an opportunity out of a crisis. That’s the main message and the way ahead this year.

Saturn in Aquarius square Uranus in Taurus.

Exact on 17th February, 14th June and 24th December

We have one dominant theme this year that gives us the signature for 2021. This dynamic suggests we are in for a rocky ride in 2021 as the square between these very different planets is in the background throughout the year.

Saturn (tradition) is challenged by Uranus (change) and the main topics are around reformist ideals and social constructs (Aquarius) versus the security of material resources and the body’s basic needs (Taurus)

Square aspects demand action and they get our attention so we DO something to arrive at a new position or perspective. This energy asks for change so we can have a new experience.

The two planets involved have very contrasting energies and the constraints and stability of Saturn will thwart the rash overthrow of Uranus whilst Uranus will provide the unexpected twists and turns than any good plot requires ensuring Saturn doesn’t provide a dreary and predictable conclusion to this chapter of our lives.

To understand better what the planetary patterns are telling us we can take a look at the nature of the planet and the sign it’s in to give us some direction. Saturn is the planet of stability and consolidation It describes the condition of being human, the restriction, limitation and obligations of being in a world where we are confined by time, space and being physical, along with all the needs and responsibilities of living in the material world. Saturn teaches us how to get along within these confines and we learn and grow as a result, on a personal level and in an evolutionary sense. Experience can Planets cropultimately bring us maturity and a sense of right action, wisdom and self governance.

Aquarius is a fixed air sign, which describes the realm of our thoughts. It operates with detachment and rationale. Aquarius is all about knowledge and the ability to construct new concepts into a plan or system for the apparent greater good. We use this to plan for our future by looking ahead at a variety of possibilities. Imagination allows us to organize systems and structures to benefit us all in preparation for what happens next.

With Saturn in Aquarius there is the theme of social reform and technological advances that alter the way we live our everyday lives, our work needs and our social structures.

Uranus is the planet on the far side of Saturn in our solar system so it represents the next level just beyond our physical existence. It is the planet of our higher mind that taps into the grand design. It is innovative and experimental, often bringing flashes of inspiration or fantastic new ideas. It is the planet of change and disruption. It makes radical shifts to oust the existing patterns, thinking, habits or social and political structures. It inspires reforms and revolutions and breaks out beyond boundaries and conditions that prevent freedom. It is the planet of the authentic self and true individual expression. On a personal level it is all about having the ability to walk the talk or step out of the consensus conformity to be an independent thinker.

Taurus is a fixed earth sign and describes our physical experiences, the state of being human in a material environment. It represents the physical senses and the needs and wants that come with having a body. Taurus is about having the practical skills and resources required to live harmoniously in the natural world. Food, shelter, warmth and social connections are fundamental for humans to survive and thrive on a physical level. Basic security is the Taurus domain.

So as the “warp speed” plans to move humanity into a digital “smart” world get challenged by unforeseen delays and resistance, we may find that all is not going to plan when it comes to resetting our social and economic systems. On the other hand, it is all going according to plan if we allow for the chaos factor of nature and the random wild card element that has always made essential digressions and pushed evolution to its next level when required.

There will be a strange mix of ideals, ethics and personal values as many previous choices and preferences will reverse or at least overlap in ways that couldn’t have been expected before now.

Those who would be natural freedom seekers and outsiders will find themselves wanting to conserve a status quo or be defensive of traditional values. Whilst many previously conservative people will be the first to adopt the “new normal” as society is reformed at an astonishing pace.

Some of the biggest causes of division that we will experience this year will be a clash of moral or ethical values and fighting over what we value. Opinions and beliefs will become even more divergent or extreme, and each will believe they are right. The problem arises when one side wants to use force to ensure the compliance of the other. The tensions will rise and lines will be crossed. There is little doubt that we will see a lot more rebellion and resistance in 2021.

We will see many issues that highlight our access to resources in 2021. We will have serious questions about who “owns” the land, homes, property and even the money. Who has the “right” to access these resources will be a point of contention. It’s not just about the big things and global resources, it’s also about the basics at a local level. Who owns our food, or the ability to produce it from a garden or farm and our water and fuel supplies too. There will be argument and clashes, confrontation and riots over these things, all around the world. The global economic systems will be under stress and our local systems will need to step up to fill the gaps.

The issue of ownership and fundamental rights will become a major topic of divisiveness this year. There will be those that seek to overrule personal needs and wants, as we are asked to sacrifice all that we hold dear for the so-called “good of all”. Some will continue to trust those people or organisations that preach that the new ways are necessary to maintain personal and collective safety and security.

As people in their masses seek to be saved from the things they fear most, they will surrender their autonomy in exchange.principles

Not everyone wants this new system which involves little or no personal governance. Many will choose to fend for themselves by pooling their skills and resources on a local level so they can maintain their ability to manage their community systems and structures. Each will see the other as a threat to their survival and this can bring out the more basic survival instincts in people.

This is certainly a time when we must consider deeply our relationship with our environment and how able we are to harmonise with nature. We need a new approach which integrates technological advances with the natural rhythms and cycle that we have become estranged from. We need to adjust the way we organise our social patterns and how we share our resources so there is a more balanced and cohesive system in place. The planetary signatures do speak to us about “now” as the time for this. There is a massive and seemingly necessary shift occurring and a new paradigm being initiated. We are at a point of choosing which way we want to proceed.

What we currently see being promoted by the media is only one way forwards Those who hold influential positions are all singing the same tune and no one else is getting the chance to be heard or seen. Being given only one option for our collective future is not a choice, it is a dictate.

Will we become more aware and connected with our deeper and more refined spiritual nature and intuitively find the balance and harmony required. Or will we insist on following our fearful mind and self-limiting beliefs to design what we are told is the right and only way?

Neptune misinformation and confusion

A theme that carries over from 2020 is that we are being kept in the dNeptuneark or just can’t see our way ahead with clarity.

Neptune the planet of mystery and illusions is in a challenging square to the Moon’s nodes since mid-2020. The nodes represent our destined path and what we are growing into for our future as well as what we are releasing from the past. When Neptune is involved there is often an inability to see what is going on behind the scenes and it’s as if things are being distorted leaving a sense of unreality to whatever is happening. Certainly, it may not appear that we are deluded or mistaken because the illusion is very effective. We just know that things don’t add up or they make no sense when we try to put the pieces together. This dynamic concludes in early February. Once this veil is lifted many things may become apparent. There is likely to be revelations of deeply held secrets or deliberate deceptions. We should at least get some clarity and see where we are heading now. There may be a backlash as some people feel cheated or angry at being taken advantage of over the past months.

Some of the barriers to feeling compassion and empathy are going to lift and we may be more able to resonate with others despite being of differing opinion.

For many people, this phase will have helped them look more deeply for the hidden truths in life and brought them a sense of connection with something more spiritual or of greater meaning.

Mars is on the move again

After spending an extraordinary amount of time in one sign in 2020, nearly half the year in Aries, Mars is now going to transit eight signs in 2021 serving as a timing trigger. This movement from the action planet signifies the fast pace of change and the rapid evolution of events that we can expect this year. It is also the planet of friction and conflict. Not all conflict is war but this planet makes some very volatile contacts with several other planetary big shots as it whizzes by. Mars travels through each sign and stirs things up. The nature of each sign gives us the clues as to how well this goes. It triggers the Uranus in Taurus position on 18th January which can ignite some heat around bodily integrity and food resources. This opens up the challenges that we will be facing surrounding these topics this year.mars-crop

When Mars challenges Jupiter on 19th January we could see some heated action and conflict around justice and social reforms and then some shift or resolution, a finale of sorts, from the opposition on 28th July.

On 1st July Mars opposes Saturn and this frustrating energy can cause the pressure to break something apart during the few days either side. In the fire sign of Leo, it could be a literal firewall problem. some resistance to the enforcement of restrictions or significant leadership changes.

In late October and early November Mars moves from the air sign Libra to the water sign Scorpio as it makes a powerful and challenging square to Pluto, then Saturn followed by an opposition to Uranus. This is certainly going to be a turbulent few weeks and a peak period of disruption this year We can expect power clashes and maybe riots or civil disturbances during this time. There could be natural events that create upheaval as the Lunar eclipse also falls into this time frame. 20th October to 20th November.

Jupiter in Pisces provides a preview

Jupiter just arrived in Aquarius at the end of 2020 to make its grand conjunction with Saturn. It takes about a year to transit one sign so we have this expansion of Aquarian themes for 2021.

Aquarius does not get entangled in sentimentality or get swayed by emotional reactivity. It casts a clear and detached mind over the issues it perceives and seeks a progressive solution that will benefit humanity. So there is a high level of innovation with new technologies that are designed to create a better world for our future. At worst there is an exaggerated level of ideology and altruism with a sense of almost divine righteousness.

Jupiter briefly moves into Pisces, on 13th May until 28th July when it starts the retrograde back into Aquarius and it won’t return to Pisces until 29th December. But this short spell of the benevolent planet in its own sign of Pisces is like a breath of fresh air amid so much unrest and restriction. Pisces is a creative and even mystical sign that connects to other dimensions with ease. It can be inclined to want to escape the material world in exchange for something more spiritual. Its true expression is more towards freeing the spirit from the confines of the mundane and expressing a more intuitive and compassionate connection with the world and its inhabitants. Jupiter in Pisces allows us to reach out and expand on our higher aspirations and goals. Our imagination is strengthened and we can be highly intuitive and inspired. We seek broader and better horizons that are aligned to values beyond the material world. It takes some of the fear away and replaces it with optimism and faith in a brighter future. There is a sense of being guided or aligned with a divine force.

The retrograde of Jupiter back into Aquarius will allow us to return to the business of reforming and working on our connection with humanity before we get to working on reconnecting to our divinity during the Pisces transit.

Mercury Retrogrades to get us thinking

30th January to 21st February in Aquarius

29th May to 22nd June in Gemini

27th September to 18th October in Libra

In 2021 Mercury has three retrograde phases which in itself is nothing unusual but this year they all occur in the airair signs.

This emphasis on our thoughts goes along with the Aquarian theme and the power of our mind and thoughts being of great significance. Mercury represents our ability to process information and make sense of what we hear or see. In a time when so much of what we are presented with as fact or knowledge is actually distorted to support an agenda, we really do need to approach information with clarity and discernment. Many responses to ideas, opinions and suggestions are rebuked with an emotional reaction rather than a level headed assessment. During these Mercury retrograde phases this year there is likely a need to review what you thought you knew to be true. Many presentations of news and truth are revealed to be less than honest during 2021 and during the Mercury retrograde phases, we are likely to see some of the supposedly reliable sources unravel.

Use these retrograde phases of 2021 to meditate and contemplate. Take time out to research or re-examine information you use to make your choices. Be prepared to reconsider and re-evaluate everything.

More than ever now it is important to be aware of what you think and where your attention and mental energy is focused. Your attention creates more of what you focus on. Keep your attention away from the issues that make you feel powerless.

The very thoughts that you think are powerful in creating your version of reality and so if they are mostly fearful or anxious your world is a much more difficult place to navigate. Whereas if your thinking is peaceful and you possess an open mind you will be assured of a much more enjoyable experience in life.

Eclipses start a new cycle

26th May Lunar eclipse in Sagittariusrisingeclipse

10th June Solar eclipse in Gemini

19th November Lunar eclipse in Taurus

4th December Solar eclipse in Sagittarius

This year’s eclipse cycles bring the ending to the previous Gemini Sagittarius polarity in exchange for the Taurus Scorpio one which becomes the eclipse pattern for 2022.

Sagittarius represents the imaginative thinking and exploration of new ideas and experiences that expand our understanding (ruled by Jupiter). Gemini represents the interpretation of information that requires a comparison of ideas and provides contrast and options. (ruled by Mercury)

The eclipse cycle moves into a Taurus Scorpio phase for 2022. The 19th November Lunar eclipse gives us a head start on the coming year trends. We begin to discern between actual reality and overly emotional responses to what we think is reality.

A big signature of 2020 and 2021 is the way we are reacting to anyone who is coming from a different perspective and opinion.

One of the big lessons for us all is to refrain from this divisiveness and to stop needing to be “right” and make the other wrong to prove our self.

Being truly awake and aware does not exclude deep feelings, compassion or empathy but it does not involve any emotionalism and reactivity. This is a truly freeing way of interacting with the world and others as each moment is fresh and untainted by any imprints or residues from the past.

The November eclipse comes amongst several other tense alignments and we may not see the full effect of this eclipse until it unfolds in the early months of 2022. There may be some purging and transformation on many levels that will clear a path for what is to come in the following year.

We can see that 2021 is really a preparation year for the next several years that follow. Doing the groundwork this year will help to design the future that is wanted by ordinary people who want to live ordinary lives. Remembering that we are each extraordinary, unique and powerful is the way to achieve this.

Venus joins with Pluto & all Six Traditional Planets Precede the Sun – February Planet News

Sunrise2-cropJanuary seems to have flown by and we are into the shortest month, albeit with an extra day! It’s been hard to make any real forward progress with both Mercury and Jupiter retrograde for the first few weeks of the year. Mercury is now going forward again but there is still a sense of things being slow to get going. The planet that rules time and keeps our feet firmly, and sometimes frustratingly, on the ground is Saturn which has been having a strong influence lately.

Venus and Mercury remain in Saturn ruled Capricorn through early February, so use this time to get the plan together, write it down or communicate your intent. Venus is all about what, or who we want or like, appreciate, value and wish to include in our lives. She joins with Pluto on the 6th whilst making a hard angle to Uranus. Things could be intense in our relationships. Issues of money or personal resources can dredge up insecurity or the fear of lack.  But this is a day when we want the truth even if it takes us out of our comfort zone. This can be an honest self appraisal that gives the chance to break away from destructive habits. It’s a desire to hear the worst even if it shatters an idealistic dream so we can begin to build something more solid. This is just more of the “getting real” theme that weaves through our lives this year.

The early days of the month are also the best time, clouds permitting, to get a good view of all the traditional planets as they spread from East to West across the pre dawn sky. This is ongoing into the last week of February. The waning moon joins in the show until it passes to follow the Sun after the 8th. Visible, all at the same time, are Jupiter Mars, Saturn, Venus and Mercury.

Spread over several signs the planets don’t make any major connections to each other so its not especially significant on a personal level but it’s worth trying to spot them in the sky if you get the chance. On a more mundane level in traditional Astrology there is some significance that all the planets are rising ahead of the Sun, as if clearing the way for its appearance. The Sun would naturally represent the “king” or prominent ruler in world affairs, more commonly a politician in current times. Several significant world leaders are fighting to gain or regain political authority this year so this could reflect the rise of a leader on a path to power. In mystical terms the Sun or “king” can represent our own source of spiritual power or internal guiding force that is being given the focus now as it rises into a more dominant position in our awareness.

These first two weeks of the month gives us time to work out the details of any contracts or deals with Mercury’s help and get other people on board if they are showing willing. Take the opportunity to put it all together or at least get the outlines drawn out because the energy should shift by mid month when some real progress can be made at last. The Sun is currently in Aquarius and although this is still Saturn ruled it’s definitely a future oriented sign that wants to bring some really beneficial, and sometimes quite unique and original ideas into the world. When both Venus and Mercury move into Aquarius around mid month we could see some interesting possibilities being put forward and some of them might be worth going out on a limb for.

With several major planets mid sign this month the angles between them are easy and supportive. These lesser aspects can be helpful to give a boost even to the most challenging planets and so the second half of the month has this lighter, more flowing feel. The Sun moves in to Pisces on 19th  – a Jupiter ruled sign. Yes, we can finally breathe deeply and stretch out once more. We can look up and out for inspiration with the sense that clouds are lifting away and the horizon is widening at long last.

Capricorn New Moon, lets get physical – real world manifestation!

crescent moon

Let’s do something practical to really make the most of the Capricorn New Moon vibes. The New Moon is at 20° Capricorn on the 10th January at 1:31am (UT)

The first New Moon of the year falls in Capricorn, our sea goat sign, ruled by Saturn. New Moons are always a good starting point for any new initiative or direction and in Capricorn, a Cardinal earth sign, there’s the opportunity to really make some long term changes. When we decide we want to make life altering plans, or do our daily positive affirmations, or write lists of future intent, there has to be something more than just wishful hoping that it will simply all happen because we have declared it.

With the Sun Moon combination touching the Pluto Uranus square that still lingers with us, there is definitely the sense that so much more needs to shift if we are to live the life we prefer. Making changes isn’t an option – it’s essential! The first planet the Moon touches with its rays, after connecting with the Sun, is Jupiter in retrograde and next is that tricky Mercury also in retrograde. These two planets are re-treading old ground, renegotiating, redesigning and refining, making sure we have the full information and have definitely covered the details for when we finally discover that what we desire is coming in our direction.

Saturn, that planet that keeps our feet firmly on the ground, paired up with Venus for a couple of days, giving our Venusian desires a down to earth practicality. We want to include more of what’s both meaningful, and useful, now. Using the Capricorn way as an example, it’s time to reflect our desires in the physical world of stuff and things. Acting out our dreams, hopes or desires by doing something that represents the change we want to make, is very powerful. It doesn’t have to be the “big thing” all at once – just a gesture to the universe to say you mean it!

If you want world peace then take five minutes to sit or walk quietly without allowing the busy mind to interfere with you own inner peace. If it’s greater abundance you require then go around your house and count up the things you have already. If you want to kick a habit then just make a simple change, take a different route when you leave home.

Using the “making it real” energy that this January New Moon offers can really give your New Year optimism a very substantial and much needed boost.

2016 Astrology Forecast

Time 2016We start 2016 with lot’s of hope and anticipation for the good times ahead and even though it may take some months before we feel that this really is a trend in the right direction. By years end we might find ourselves living in a different reality to the one we’ve just left behind. 2016 is a year when the recent challenging cycles of the last ten years show us how they have prepared the way for our next phase of development. This year is likely to be a “game changer” and now each one of us has to choose how we are going to play it.  Read the Full 2016 Forecast

Saturn square Neptune – Reality Shifts, Living the Dream or Losing the Plot?

Saturn spaceThe midpoint between Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice is an important point in the progress of the Sun through the year. Seasonal festivities are now mainly focussed around Halloween but the actual “cross quarter day” is on the 7th. Many of the stone megaliths throughout Europe indicate the Sun’s alignment to a specific point in the landscape. These ancient markers remind us of the cyclic nature of our solar year. By following the movements of the planets we can also become aware of much bigger cycles within society and our group consciousness.

The main Astrological event this month is a significant point in a dynamic relationship between Saturn and Neptune that takes about 36-37 years to complete. This current square angle will be active until mid September 2016 and is likely to bring about huge shifts in our awareness, viewpoints and attitudes, both on the personal level and within the mass consciousness. This phase will take us through to 2025 and a completion of this cycle.

The square angle is a challenge, an uncomfortable situation which requires action. Saturn acts as a teacher and represents the world of physicality. There are responsibilities, conditions and inevitable consequences that come with the human experience. We all experience the doubts, fears and insecurities of living in a three dimensional state. Understanding how to navigate the material world brings self discipline, resourcefulness and also practical wisdom.

Whenever we encounter Saturn we are being asked to take a reality check – are our limits supporting us or preventing further growth? Do we need to rewrite our contracts, check our boundaries or face up to something?

Neptune is almost opposite in nature. It draws us to a non material world beyond the limitations of physicality. It dissolves the boundaries of time and space. We touch into the dream world of mystery, illusion and delusion whenever Neptune is in our consciousness. There are no limitations with Neptune, no definition or structure. It speaks to us of unseen worlds beyond the physical senses, an infinite oneness. It invites us to experience the realm of spirit.

Saturn is currently in Sagittarius whilst Neptune is in Pisces, and both these signs are ruled by Jupiter, the “feel good” planet. Jupiter seeks happiness, meaning, something beyond the mundane and ultimately, a sense of joy. Sagittarius is philosophical, a truth seeker whilst Pisces is merging with mystical realms. The challenge indicated by the current square angle will bring up issues of moral or spiritual significance as we are encouraged to expand and grow into something beyond our current experience.

The themes during the coming months will be about our commonality, compassion and connection to all life. The next challenge will be to represent this expanded awareness in our social systems and organisations. There will be reality shifts. Sometimes this could be a through a profound revelation of spiritual understanding or it could be due to a disintegration of what seemed to be reliable and trustworthy into a state of chaos. The next year will be arduous for anyone who has not begun to explore higher truths that are inclusive rather than separatist or divisive. Disillusionment has to happen as the existing illusion breaks down. For those who are very entrenched in the material world this can translate into a sense of self righteousness, religious fanaticism or determination to bring law and order into areas of perceived chaos. For those who are already consciously seeking on a spiritual level the challenges will be found where dreams or ideals don’t match with daily life. The bottom line here from Saturn is “Get Real” and from Neptune “Let Go to the Flow” The challenge is to do both simultaneously!

If you want to know how these important planetary dynamics are likely to impact on a personal level you’ll need to know how  they interact with your own birth chart.  I can discuss this and many other astrological details with you in a reading of your chart. Get in touch for an appointment.

October Astro Update – Relationship Focus, Mars & Venus join with Jupiter –

F&L 01The big Lunar eclipse of last month probably had you put your attention on relationships with it’s Aries and Libra focus. October will continue with this theme and it’s not just the relationship with your “soul mate” or “significant other” that’s being brought into view for consideration now.

Venus, the planet most closely associated with love and relationships is in Leo as we start this month and now that the Sun is in her zodiac sign Libra, she gets extra strength. Venus is also the planet which represents our values and what we want to include in our lives simply because it’s meaningful. She urges us towards social inclusion and harmonious connections. When she moves into Virgo, home sign of planet Mercury on the 8th she is once again strengthened because Mercury is currently in Libra (her sign). In Virgo, Venus wants to be discerning and practical and definitely wants to get it right. Venus goes on to make a challenging square aspect to Saturn on the 11th making us aware of any conflicting desire for equality and openness versus prudence and temperance. This is especially relevant now with Saturn, planet of boundaries and limits, firmly in Sagittarius, the sign of the truth seeker. We can expect to be confronted by issues of censure and exclusion during the next couple of years.

The strongest dynamic during October is the conjunction of Mars to Jupiter exact on 17th but can be felt for several days either side of that date. When all that action centred, physical drive energy of Mars is combined with the “let the good times roll” planet Jupiter it could bring on some crazy party vibes or the required thrust to get some adventurous project under way. This duo have a well earned reputation for taking risks or going to excess but with both these planets in conscientious Virgo the energy can be carefully directed and precision timed for best effect. While this forceful pair team up they are also connecting with powerful Pluto in a supportive trine aspect which gives an extra sense of determined focus to achieve something momentous.

Not to be left out of the limelight we have Venus following in the footsteps of Mars. Throughout the month she keeps our focus on personal values, social relationships and a desire for the beautiful things in life, ensuring we don’t lose sight of what’s most important to us. Venus also connects positively with Pluto, on 23rd giving us the boost we need to completely align ourselves with the very best “win win” situations. She goes on to join with upbeat Jupiter on 25th just in time for the Full Moon in her sign on 27th This line up gives a real sense of having something to celebrate and be grateful for. To finish off the month on a high note, the love goddess Venus catches up with her warrior consort Mars bringing the two archetypal aspects of human relationship together just in time for Samhain.

Virgo Vibes & Solar Eclipse – September astro events

Sometime in the near fullmoon future you may be able to look back to this September as the month you got your life in order. Or, if not the whole life plan, at least some aspect of it! It could simply be a case of organising some paperwork or tidying a space but for the more ambitious this is the time to make some real progress with practical projects or realigning your life goals to the original blueprint.

The dominant energy this month has a Virgo vibe. Jupiter the expansive “feel good” planet has now moved into this sign since mid August and stays for about a year. Virgo wants to attend to, and fix, whatever doesn’t seem to fit the pattern or natural order of things. In many ways this is expressed as a critical position by picking up on what is wrong in any given situation – or person! Used constructively this analytical attention to details can help with the process of clearing out the deadwood, throwing out clutter, amending destructive habits and creating an easier flow or rhythm.

The Sun made it’s conjunction to Jupiter in late August and was in Virgo for the Full Moon of 29th. That energy carries forward into September and the New Moon Solar eclipse on 13th.

As always a New Moon is a seed point for the next Lunar cycle. Other astrological events around this time add to it’s potential. Although this month’s partial Solar eclipse isn’t especially powerful as a world event trigger, it may well be experienced in more subtle but significant ways on a personal level.

Virgo is ruled by the quicksilver messenger planet, Mercury and in this earthy sign the “dealing with data” Mercurial energy is more focussed on practical matters to do with our environment, body, health and food systems. A Solar eclipse is a moment in time when the usual pattern is disrupted whilst the energy of the Sun is obscured by the shadow of the passing Moon. It’s a pause and a chance to make changes, like a system re-boot on a computer or a scenery change in between acts in the theatre.

With Jupiter’s future orientated energy which is always seeking something beyond it’s current state – a bigger, better, improved version of life, positioned in opposition to Neptune now, there could be some disorientation of goals. Neptune casts it’s influence out by dissolving boundaries and breaking the barrier between what is easily defined in material terms and what is more subtle or mystical. Confusion or disruption is possible, but also that lapse of determination or focus could allow another possibility to take form. These are all good supports for making changes to physical structures and mental habits that leave us with less than the best in health or well being. Take the dreams of Neptune and the opportunities given by a buoyant Jupiter to the extreme. Use this Virgo focus to really attend to the details, set some new patterns in place, then relax and allow that natural organising force of nature to do the rest.

Venus & Uranus retrograde, Saturn direct. Jupiter, Venus conjunct – A busy start to August!

principlesAstrologically August starts out with a few busy days. The last week of July has set the pace, when Venus turned to retrograde motion on 25th July and Uranus followed suit on the 26th. We now have five planets in retrograde which includes all the slower heavyweights, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. This is a clean up operation. Whilst going “backwards” a planet is re- treading past territory and this gives us the call to attend any loose ends, details or unfinished business with the issues that each planet represents. The slower – farther from earth – the planet is, the more thorough that process has to be. That’s quite a workload right now!

The second Full Moon of July on 31st in Aquarius put the focus on our relative position within the greater scheme of things. It may well have highlighted our role in the community or made us consider what we bring as an individual to contribute to the bigger picture as a whole. Where we aren’t satisfied, or remain unclear or just not matching up to our own ideals, will all be given an overhaul in the coming weeks and months.

As August gets under way, Saturn, known to some as the “Lord of Karma” reaches the point where he turns to go forward once more, having been retrograde since March. He has travelled back into Scorpio as far as his position last December, so there has likely been some harsh lessons and thwarted plans during this time. Saturn’s role is to constrain or provide structure, discipline and substance to our lives. It is through learning from experience, over time, that we really get the chance to develop our endurance and resilience and also we’re frequently compelled to yield to forces of time and the limits of physical reality whenever Saturn in involved. These experiences can be frustrating, but also potentially enlightening and ultimately liberating gifts to our lives. By November Saturn will reach the point he had progressed to before turning back. We can then start to really move away from the lessons of the last 2-3 years into a new phase with Saturn staying in Sagittarius during the next couple of years.

The main planetary activity is around 28 degrees of the fixed signs for the first week of August as this is where all the action takes place. Whilst Saturn is changing direction he is in a challenging aspect with both the “feel good” planets – Venus and Jupiter. Anyone born between 20th – 23rd of January, April, July or October will be strongly affected as will anyone with a late degree ascendant or personal planet in late Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius.

As Venus goes backwards she links up with Jupiter for the second time this summer on the 4th. This puts the focus on love, relationships and money but this time round with Saturn involved, it shows up where we feel things are less than satisfactory. This is the time to make adjustments, re-negotiate the contracts and ask how we are making boundaries or limitations that don’t do us any favours. It’s not all bad though. This is our opportunity to firm up where we let things slide or were a bit unclear to begin with. We can set out something more solid and reliable now. Maybe less exciting, romantic or adventurous but certainly more likely to withstand the test of time and serve us well in to the future.

The August New Moon is at 22° Leo on the 14th at 2:55pm with the following Full Moon at 7° Pisces on the 29th at 6:36pm (UT)

June Full Moon in Sagittarius & Midsummer Visions of the Future

Sky-cropJune opens with a Jupiter ruled Full Moon in Sagittarius on the 2nd The Sun is in Mercury ruled Gemini through to June 21st. Mercury is joined with the Sun and Mars in it’s own sign, Gemini and is in it’s retrograde (apparent backwards) phase until June 11th.
Mercury is known as the winged messenger god and represents the mental activity of the human mind and the transfer of ideas and thought. All the everyday communication between people is the business of Mercury and this includes trading goods, connections by travelling, writing and speech as well as general ideas and information exchange.

This “quicksilver” planet will travel through the early degrees of Gemini, where it is particularly strong, three times during May and June due to this current retrograde. We can expect all the issues governed by Mercury to be highlighted right into the month end and some of these things may have to be corrected, redeveloped or revisited during this phase.

With the influence of Jupiter during the Full Moon there will be an expansion of ideas, projects or positive activity and in particular our beliefs or understanding may increase to become more inclusive as we feel more intensely about these things. The Moon at Full intensifies our moods and Jupiter can be prone to exaggeration too, so emotions may become heightened as ideologies abound and feelings may have to settle down a bit before there is a real or solid basis for building on.

By the 6th June when the planet of social values, Venus, connects positively with Saturn, the planet that brings a serious “reality check” with it, we can probably be fairly confidant that any new found enthusiasm still running with mileage to go, is not simply based on “hot air” or pure optimism.

The New Moon mid month gives us both the Sun and Moon joined with Mars in Gemini. We can expect more focus on all those Mercurial affairs. More information is being made available, with an emphasis on there being two sides to a story, or rival attitudes, and maybe even using facts or data as a form of weapon or tool to achieve some end. A war of words!

The Solar year progresses to it’s culmination at Solstice on 21st June when it moves into the sign of Cancer at it’s most northerly declination. This event sets the astrological trend for the next few months and we find that the most significant alignment now is with Jupiter and Uranus the following day. This bodes well if you want more expansive change that brings a new independence or unexpected departure in approach or attitude. It’s a positive trine aspect in Fire signs Leo and Aries and this is an upbeat, inspirational dynamic. Freedom and improvement are keywords here. Dreamers of the future vision may come to the front to be heard or more likely the dream for the future will be felt collectively and the required enthusiasm and inspiration is made available for it to manifest on an individual level. This same aspect occurred in early March this year and that optimism and sense of positivity can be re lived with a chance of very real personal change for the better. It’s an opportunity and it needs to be exploited in the best possible way.

May Planet Update – Beltaine, Full Moon in Scorpio – Passions run high

Planets15thCThe month of May begins with the celebration of Beltaine, a cross quarter day and fire festival which marks the halfway point of the Sun’s journey between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Although most commonly associated with Mayday and the 1st May the actual mid point falls a few days later – on the 5th this year. Many of the traditional customs that have survived through the ages represent a form of cleansing and re-seeding in preparation for the bountiful summer months.

With the Sun in the earthy sign of Taurus at this time of year the connection with our physical body and natural environment is very strong. At full Moon there is a culmination or peak in energy and because the Moon is always in the opposite sign to the Sun at the Full Moon phase, so we also have all the intense associations of Scorpio involved. Passions of all kinds can run high and emotions can go deep as a whole range of material, physical and practical issues come to a head. Whether this manifests as a satisfactory completion or a critical climax it is likely to be quite an event because Jupiter, known for it’s ability to exaggerate whatever it touches, is hitting a hard angle at both the Sun and Moon from fixed fire sign Leo. This Moon phase could highlight issues of individual personal expression as a human right particularly when it concerns any subject that has been considered a social taboo.

We can expect to have our beliefs and level of openness to new ideas challenged over the next few weeks as Saturn, planet of limitation and restraint is now in it’s retrograde phase, moving back to re-enter Scorpio in mid June. The small but powerful planet Pluto in Capricorn also turned to retrograde during April and will be in reverse until late September. This gives us the impetus to go back over some important and fundamental areas of our life. Looking at the systems, structures and supports which are no longer valid or sustainable, with a view to re-building or completely transforming what isn’t working well is the theme once more.

As the action planet Mars moves into Gemini mid month and confronts Saturn there will be an increase in the tempo of communications and information exchanges but it could be just a lot of “hot air” without the required will to follow through on any positive action.

The New Moon in Taurus on the 18th will bring us back to considering our core values and possibly a desire to indulge in the simpler things of life. On the 19th Mercury, in it’s own sign of Gemini and natural representative for all communications, travel and exchanges, turns to go retrograde until the second week of June. The emphasis is firmly on reconsidering, re-negotiating, revising and re-writing documents, travel arrangements, deals and trading. This provides an opportunity to edit, proof read or check the “small print” before we sign on the dotted line or embark on something new.

When Venus, ruling planet of Taurus, now in Cancer moves into exact opposition to Pluto on 22nd you may experience some resistance to your desires if they are just about fulfilling your own needs. The chances are that as Venus moves on to oppose unpredictable Uranus in Aries on 25th there may be the recognition once again that even excitement and high tension can become tedious and the simpler things of life can bring a longer lasting satisfaction so a deeper sense of nourishment can be enjoyed.
