We start 2016 with lot’s of hope and anticipation for the good times ahead and even though it may take some months before we feel that this really is a trend in the right direction. By years end we might find ourselves living in a different reality to the one we’ve just left behind. 2016 is a year when the recent challenging cycles of the last ten years show us how they have prepared the way for our next phase of development. This year is likely to be a “game changer” and now each one of us has to choose how we are going to play it. Read the Full 2016 Forecast
The big Lunar eclipse of last month probably had you put your attention on relationships with it’s Aries and Libra focus. October will continue with this theme and it’s not just the relationship with your “soul mate” or “significant other” that’s being brought into view for consideration now.
Venus, the planet most closely associated with love and relationships is in Leo as we start this month and now that the Sun is in her zodiac sign Libra, she gets extra strength. Venus is also the planet which represents our values and what we want to include in our lives simply because it’s meaningful. She urges us towards social inclusion and harmonious connections. When she moves into Virgo, home sign of planet Mercury on the 8th she is once again strengthened because Mercury is currently in Libra (her sign). In Virgo, Venus wants to be discerning and practical and definitely wants to get it right. Venus goes on to make a challenging square aspect to Saturn on the 11th making us aware of any conflicting desire for equality and openness versus prudence and temperance. This is especially relevant now with Saturn, planet of boundaries and limits, firmly in Sagittarius, the sign of the truth seeker. We can expect to be confronted by issues of censure and exclusion during the next couple of years.
The strongest dynamic during October is the conjunction of Mars to Jupiter exact on 17th but can be felt for several days either side of that date. When all that action centred, physical drive energy of Mars is combined with the “let the good times roll” planet Jupiter it could bring on some crazy party vibes or the required thrust to get some adventurous project under way. This duo have a well earned reputation for taking risks or going to excess but with both these planets in conscientious Virgo the energy can be carefully directed and precision timed for best effect. While this forceful pair team up they are also connecting with powerful Pluto in a supportive trine aspect which gives an extra sense of determined focus to achieve something momentous.
Not to be left out of the limelight we have Venus following in the footsteps of Mars. Throughout the month she keeps our focus on personal values, social relationships and a desire for the beautiful things in life, ensuring we don’t lose sight of what’s most important to us. Venus also connects positively with Pluto, on 23rd giving us the boost we need to completely align ourselves with the very best “win win” situations. She goes on to join with upbeat Jupiter on 25th just in time for the Full Moon in her sign on 27th This line up gives a real sense of having something to celebrate and be grateful for. To finish off the month on a high note, the love goddess Venus catches up with her warrior consort Mars bringing the two archetypal aspects of human relationship together just in time for Samhain.
Astrologically August starts out with a few busy days. The last week of July has set the pace, when Venus turned to retrograde motion on 25th July and Uranus followed suit on the 26th. We now have five planets in retrograde which includes all the slower heavyweights, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. This is a clean up operation. Whilst going “backwards” a planet is re- treading past territory and this gives us the call to attend any loose ends, details or unfinished business with the issues that each planet represents. The slower – farther from earth – the planet is, the more thorough that process has to be. That’s quite a workload right now!
The second Full Moon of July on 31st in Aquarius put the focus on our relative position within the greater scheme of things. It may well have highlighted our role in the community or made us consider what we bring as an individual to contribute to the bigger picture as a whole. Where we aren’t satisfied, or remain unclear or just not matching up to our own ideals, will all be given an overhaul in the coming weeks and months.
As August gets under way, Saturn, known to some as the “Lord of Karma” reaches the point where he turns to go forward once more, having been retrograde since March. He has travelled back into Scorpio as far as his position last December, so there has likely been some harsh lessons and thwarted plans during this time. Saturn’s role is to constrain or provide structure, discipline and substance to our lives. It is through learning from experience, over time, that we really get the chance to develop our endurance and resilience and also we’re frequently compelled to yield to forces of time and the limits of physical reality whenever Saturn in involved. These experiences can be frustrating, but also potentially enlightening and ultimately liberating gifts to our lives. By November Saturn will reach the point he had progressed to before turning back. We can then start to really move away from the lessons of the last 2-3 years into a new phase with Saturn staying in Sagittarius during the next couple of years.
The main planetary activity is around 28 degrees of the fixed signs for the first week of August as this is where all the action takes place. Whilst Saturn is changing direction he is in a challenging aspect with both the “feel good” planets – Venus and Jupiter. Anyone born between 20th – 23rd of January, April, July or October will be strongly affected as will anyone with a late degree ascendant or personal planet in late Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius.
As Venus goes backwards she links up with Jupiter for the second time this summer on the 4th. This puts the focus on love, relationships and money but this time round with Saturn involved, it shows up where we feel things are less than satisfactory. This is the time to make adjustments, re-negotiate the contracts and ask how we are making boundaries or limitations that don’t do us any favours. It’s not all bad though. This is our opportunity to firm up where we let things slide or were a bit unclear to begin with. We can set out something more solid and reliable now. Maybe less exciting, romantic or adventurous but certainly more likely to withstand the test of time and serve us well in to the future.
The August New Moon is at 22° Leo on the 14th at 2:55pm with the following Full Moon at 7° Pisces on the 29th at 6:36pm (UT)
July starts with a welcome sense of opportunity and good fortune as both the greater and lesser “benefics” Jupiter and Venus, join together on the 1st. The view of these two bright stars getting closer by the day has been an enchanting feature of our early evening sky for the last several weeks. This combination in larger than life Leo, gives us a favourable expectation for all the classic “love, luck and money” issues. Venus puts the focus on socialising, money and of course, romance. Jupiter is the feel good planet and provides opportunities to expand and increase, even to the point of excess. Combined with the heightened vibrational qualities of a Full Moon on 2nd the events of next week could be positively uplifting.
Making the most of this upbeat energy gets the summer rolling and we will see two more Jupiter Venus conjunctions, in early August and mid October, due to Venus in retrograde motion from July 25th to September 6th. Expect to have to rethink some of the important factors connected to your finances and relationships during late July and August. Making commitments too rashly early in the month will certainly find you needing to reconsider your position, but preparing the way ahead and setting out the game plan for later in the year is a good strategy.
Around the 14th any strong desires or alliances you aim to fulfil will be tested when Saturn makes a challenging aspect to Venus. This is a useful reality check as whilst Saturn is still making his progress backwards into Scorpio the “stuff” that isn’t really working to sustain or support you is having to be dealt with – even if you thought you had it covered already – it’s going to take a bit more of your time and attention to get it right.
This is the month to put some attitude or way of operating well and truly behind you before Saturn moves forward once more and into Sagittarius properly in a few weeks time. Just to assist with this process of sorting out what is appropriate to continue to have in our life, we have feisty Mars in touchy feely Cancer, opposite Pluto in Capricorn on the 15th. This stressful aspect is likely to draw out some strong emotions. Any sense of vulnerability or overexposure to a demanding or powerful force will become apparent and require some remedial action.
The Cancer New Moon on 16th is a perfect energy to give attention to a new phase of life. This dynamic is combined with Mercury, the planet of ideas, connections and communication, making a difficult aspect to transformative Pluto, whilst also joined with assertive Mars. Not the best time for sensitive negotiations! But if things have to be said or harsh truths realised and discussed then this is the most likely time it will all come out into the open.
Having freed up some emotional energy and now that Jupiter, with all it’s promise of better things ahead, has finally caught up to the position it was in, before the recent retrograde phase starting last December, we can pick up and run with plans, projects and relationships that seemed to have stalled for the first half of this year. Jupiter is in Leo until early August and in this sign he wants to have fun and get seriously creative. Use this month to go the extra mile, make an impression and enjoy the impulses of your soul filled heart.
Full Moon is at 10° Capricorn on the 2nd July at 2:21am and New Moon is at 24° Cancer on the 16th at 1:25am (UT)
The month of May begins with the celebration of Beltaine, a cross quarter day and fire festival which marks the halfway point of the Sun’s journey between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Although most commonly associated with Mayday and the 1st May the actual mid point falls a few days later – on the 5th this year. Many of the traditional customs that have survived through the ages represent a form of cleansing and re-seeding in preparation for the bountiful summer months.
With the Sun in the earthy sign of Taurus at this time of year the connection with our physical body and natural environment is very strong. At full Moon there is a culmination or peak in energy and because the Moon is always in the opposite sign to the Sun at the Full Moon phase, so we also have all the intense associations of Scorpio involved. Passions of all kinds can run high and emotions can go deep as a whole range of material, physical and practical issues come to a head. Whether this manifests as a satisfactory completion or a critical climax it is likely to be quite an event because Jupiter, known for it’s ability to exaggerate whatever it touches, is hitting a hard angle at both the Sun and Moon from fixed fire sign Leo. This Moon phase could highlight issues of individual personal expression as a human right particularly when it concerns any subject that has been considered a social taboo.
We can expect to have our beliefs and level of openness to new ideas challenged over the next few weeks as Saturn, planet of limitation and restraint is now in it’s retrograde phase, moving back to re-enter Scorpio in mid June. The small but powerful planet Pluto in Capricorn also turned to retrograde during April and will be in reverse until late September. This gives us the impetus to go back over some important and fundamental areas of our life. Looking at the systems, structures and supports which are no longer valid or sustainable, with a view to re-building or completely transforming what isn’t working well is the theme once more.
As the action planet Mars moves into Gemini mid month and confronts Saturn there will be an increase in the tempo of communications and information exchanges but it could be just a lot of “hot air” without the required will to follow through on any positive action.
The New Moon in Taurus on the 18th will bring us back to considering our core values and possibly a desire to indulge in the simpler things of life. On the 19th Mercury, in it’s own sign of Gemini and natural representative for all communications, travel and exchanges, turns to go retrograde until the second week of June. The emphasis is firmly on reconsidering, re-negotiating, revising and re-writing documents, travel arrangements, deals and trading. This provides an opportunity to edit, proof read or check the “small print” before we sign on the dotted line or embark on something new.
When Venus, ruling planet of Taurus, now in Cancer moves into exact opposition to Pluto on 22nd you may experience some resistance to your desires if they are just about fulfilling your own needs. The chances are that as Venus moves on to oppose unpredictable Uranus in Aries on 25th there may be the recognition once again that even excitement and high tension can become tedious and the simpler things of life can bring a longer lasting satisfaction so a deeper sense of nourishment can be enjoyed.
A breakdown, breakthrough or break out! With a potential for release of tension & necessary discharge of emotional energy this Lunar eclipse is an opportunity for another major step in our important relationships & self development.
After last month’s peak in astrological excitement April is going to seem quite unremarkable by comparison. We do though have some planetary events that hold great potential for really working with, and moving on from, what was brought out in these recent weeks.
The month opens with a fire trine aspect between the Sun in Aries and Jupiter in Leo on 2nd. This is a powerful “up beat” energy boost from two planets that bring a positive energetic vibe working together to bring out the best of their respective traits. Use this as an opportunity for creative expansion, exciting adventure or the inspiration to embark on a new enterprise.
On the 4th we have this months headline event – a total lunar eclipse! Although not visible in Europe we can still experience the astrological effects. At every Full Moon the Sun is on one side of the earth and casts it’s light onto the face of the Moon on the opposite side of the earth. When the earth is in exact alignment in the middle (twice each year) it’s shadow obscures the Moon for about 2 hours, hence the eclipse.
As the Moon reaches it’s culminating phase at Full so we can expect the fulfilment of whatever was in focus at the last New Moon (the solar eclipse of March) and being a lunar eclipse this is a time of great release. If you sensed the tension that built up during last month as Uranus and Pluto reached their final exact square and then felt some relief after the Solar eclipse you might recognise some of that same energy being expressed again in early April. Both the Sun and Moon align with Uranus and Pluto within orb of the lunar eclipse degree.
Our intentions, aims and personal will was aligned during last months solar eclipse and now we can clear away remaining emotional blockages, fears or inhibitions that prevent us moving more fully in to the new possibilities. Just a couple of hours after the lunar eclipse the Moon will be square to Pluto which can dredge up old fear feelings or deep seated issues that have been unconsciously inhibiting our responses. The Moon is then opposite Uranus just four hours after the eclipse which could bring a sudden emotional discharge, unexpected breakthrough – or a break away!
As the Sun connects with Pluto on the 5th and then Uranus on the 6th the solar energy of self determination gets another stimulating kick towards the, recently revealed, new version of yourself. The next planet to get involved in this game (on the 8th) is Mercury, who represents our thinking process, communications and way of exchanging ideas and information. This could bring about a revolutionary shift or change in what you think, or say, and even how you express your innermost or secret thoughts.
The overall effect of this dynamic pattern around the lunar eclipse could produce a powerful emotional release. If you’re ready, and welcoming the current changes, it can be an exciting step forward. If however you’re resistant to upheaval in your personal life it could mean a rough ride for a couple of weeks. This phase is a further shedding of old patterns or reactions and a time to let go of the past. Anything that we cling to as familiar or that gives us a sense of security or well being but is actually more of a limitation than a comfort needs to be discarded. As the big “feel good” future orientated planet, Jupiter ends its retrograde phase to move forward once more, also on the 8th, we can really get a stronger sense of the new and very inviting horizon that’s coming into view.
During the first few days of February we have a cross quarter day, Imbolc, which marks the halfway point between winter solstice and spring equinox. With it we see a noticeable lengthening of the day that heralds the coming of spring in the northern hemisphere.
February has also become a time for romance and the expression of love with the modern celebrations associated with St Valentines day. This year the month certainly starts with a “feel good” boost as Venus the planet of love, attraction and beauty connects with Neptune in the sign of Pisces on February 1st. This combination gives a sense of well being in the area of relationships of all kinds. Any tension that has been ongoing during the past weeks, especially in close relationships, should experience a reprieve as the Neptune/Pisces influence encourages making those unions without the usual conditions or expectations about who we should, or shouldn’t, be for each other.
As the Moon becomes Full in Leo on the 3rd opposite the Sun in Aquarius they make a positive link to Uranus and the South node of the Moon. This Moon/Sun combination brings a bold statement and some welcome positive creative expression and the Uranus/Node connection adds the possibility of an unexpected chance to break out of past habits or situations for the better.
The Sun moves into line with the big planet Jupiter to form an opposition on the 6th. This yearly event puts Earth between the two creating a stressful energy combination in our solar system bringing strong weather patterns and additional volcanic activity. This year because Jupiter is closer than usual to earth it will be particularly bright in the night sky. Watch out for a good view as it rises in the East after Sunset and remains very visible all night.
The quicksilver planet Mercury has been slowed down by it’s apparent retrograde journey as it moves between earth and the Sun and resumes it’s forward motion, from earth’s perspective on the 11th. It should now be possible to resolve any communications, travel arrangements or transactions that were delayed, misplaced or problematic in the last few weeks.
A big feature of this months Astrology is the New Moon on the 18th. As the second New Moon in Aquarius this year it is unusual for that alone but it’s also falling on an especially potent degree on the very cusp of Aquarius and Pisces. Just a few seconds after the exact Sun Moon conjunction the Moon moves into Pisces followed a couple of minutes later by the Sun. This gives us the opportunity to focus on making a mental leap in our conscious understanding. Aquarius represents the wisdom of the unified, collective or divine mind. Using the potency of the New Moon as a “seed” moment we can attune to that level of knowledge to take us forward into the next phase as the Moon waxes to Full in the sign of Virgo next month.
If you still need to lift your spirits a little further a good view of Venus becoming brighter in the early evening sky just after sunset should help. Her beauty is enhanced by the first sliver of the crescent Moon as she moves into the assertive sign of Aries on 20th to pair up with Mars who entered Aries only hours earlier. Venus and Mars together are a passionate couple and Mars gets his way in his own sign, so expect some straightforward, unambiguous moves towards whatever is desired. The positive contact with Saturn during the last week of February will give a stabilising effect to these “love” planets so you can make the most of that feisty assertive energy without losing all common sense and natural caution.
This month the New Moon is at 29°59′ Aquarius on the 18th February at 11:48pm
As January retreats in favour of February the Moon phases also cycle through the seasonal signs. Throughout this year each New Moon is followed by the Full Moon in it’s opposite zodiac sign. A New Moon will influence the trend for the following weeks. As the light of the Sun increases it’s illumination of our satellite, until at Full Moon the whole face is visible, the process that was initiated in the previous zodiac sign is brought to fruition. On January 30th the New Moon in Aquarius connected with the planet Uranus. Aquarius is an air sign and represent the flow of information, knowledge and wisdom from the divine, or greater consciousness into the awareness of mankind. Uranus is the planet of liberation, individuality and originality. When it makes a connection it can bring innovative ideas, “eureka” moments and revolution. Some seed of knowledge or spark of inspiration has been germinating. New ideas, fresh thinking, or previously hidden knowledge will come to light as the Moon reaches it’s maximum in the Sign of Leo. The fire sign of the Lion represents creative, or heart based intelligence. Dignified and with the courage of spirit, Leo wants to express the power of creative energy. This coming Leo Moon reflects back the full light of the Aquarius Sun whilst they both connect with energizing Mars. This combination gives an added drive to the emerging new seed of independent thought. Finding the confidence to express your unique abilities, ideas and attitudes creatively and acting with integrity whilst doing it is certainly achievable this month.
The quicksilver planet Mercury which usually buzzes around the Sun at quite a pace seems to slow it’s rate to a standstill during the first week of the month. It appears to turn backwards for a retrograde phase on the 6th which continues throughout February. During these weeks any logical, fast, logistical thinking becomes problematic, whilst the intuitive and creative mind has free range. Our thoughts easily turn within and become more reflective. Rather than trying to meet deadlines, finalise contracts or keep up with the usual flurry of communication, take time to reconsider or pause to find a deeper level. More detail and added information is likely to emerge now so waiting until Mercury moves forward once more will avoid having to make extra changes or adjustments later to accommodate anything new.
As March begins we have the next New Moon, in watery Pisces, initiating the next phase. The big planet Jupiter, traditional ruler of Pisces, casts its supportive rays on the Sun Moon combination. This may not be a good time for getting work done or making great advances, especially as the action planet Mars, starts it’s apparent backward motion at the same time. But this gentle dynamic does bring a “feel good” vibe into the mix and a good opportunity to set out ambitious plans. Allow yourself to dream, let your imagination flow and reach for the “impossible”.
This month’s Full Moon is at 27° Leo on the 14th February at 11:54pm. The next New Moon is at 11° Pisces on the 1st March at 8:00am.

The month of November starts with the Full Moon in Taurus on the 2nd. The Taurean is a creature of earthy sensuality and taking time to share a leisurely meal with friends and loved ones is a worthwhile occupation this week. The gentle energy brought in by the Moon will be a welcome reprieve from the fraught and tense dynamic felt since the last week in October. Feisty Mars in Leo has been in a stressful aspect to the Sun in intense Scorpio bringing frustration and challenges to our personal efforts. This influence continues to ease and will have passed by the time of the New Moon. By then we should be beginning to enjoy the beneficial effect of Mars in Leo which continues until early June 2010. Energetic Mars is at his best in an enthusiastic fire sign and in Leo is extrovert and playful. This is a good time to put your energy into new projects that are self promoting, providing the opportunity for greater self respect or much needed appreciation from others. Both Mars and Saturn are usually considered to be the most potentially destructive planets, known as the two malefics in traditional Astrology. During the next months they are both behaving well. Whilst Mars is easy in Leo, Saturn is at his happiest in Libra. He will be transiting this sign from now until October 2012. In Libra, Saturn, known as Lord of Karma, becomes his most dignified self. This is an opening to clear up old karmic debts and make great personal progress in our life lessons through the way we cooperate with others. The sign of Libra emphasises our relationships and the way we include others as equals in our lives. All dealings with another involves some form of contract even if it’s unspoken or unconscious. We always have an agreement to play a certain role or fulfil certain needs in our social interactions whether as an employer/ employee a business association or an intimate partnership. During this time we will need to take greater personal responsibility in all of life’s contracts. This includes the “contracts” we make with our self as we re evaluate our personal position in the world. Use the Scorpio New Moon to dig deep into your inner world and reveal what needs your attention now.
The New Moon Solar Eclipse in Leo on Friday 1 August signifies a time of beginnings, new directions, finding a new way of operating in the world or the opportunity to re-invent our selves. Things, people, habits and beliefs that need to change can do so now. The seeds of the current phase of change were sown earlier this year when we saw the Solar eclipse in Leo’s opposite sign of Aquarius in February. Since then our awareness of the issues facing the global community has increased. The urge now, prompted by the August eclipse cycle, will be towards a more humanitarian or inclusive approach to these common issues. A new understanding of our social role and the effect we have on others shows us that we can no longer operate in isolation. The eclipse prompts us to let go of established outworn ways whilst we adjust to the demands of the future. As the Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse of 16 August approaches we can establish the new pattern in a more tangible or practical way. Those feelings, ideas, inspirations or ideals that have been brewing over the last few weeks can now be put into action. By the time the second New Moon of August comes around on 30th we will have seen a turning of the tide as many old ways are washed “under the bridge” allowing for transformation and a fresh start in various areas of life.
In Astrology the eclipse path or locations of visibility have special significance for timing of events as these regions are often affected by the influence of the eclipse on a national level. Expect August to be quite a busy month as you watch international news headlines unfold. Traditionally an eclipse heralds a major political, economic or other momentous upheaval. The August Solar Eclipse is total but can only be seen from northern Canada, Russia and parts of China. There may be violent clashes of will when leadership is challenged as some individuals make a bid for freedom under the influence of Mars as it opposes Uranus on 6 August. The Lunar eclipse which can be seen from South America, Western Europe, West Africa, East Asia, Australia and New Zealand traditionally influences internal or domestic affairs. It coincides with several aspects to Pluto which brings hidden things to light, unblocks obstacles and transforms what it touches. Neptune is also involved which suggests, glamour but also deception whilst a trine angle between Jupiter and Venus is very fortunate, bringing luck, great gains and favourable outcomes!
The next New Moon is at 10° Leo on the 1st August at 11:32am. The August Full Moon is at 24° Aquarius on the 16th at 10:18pm and the second New Moon of August is on the 30th at 8:59pm at 8° Virgo.
