Stepping through a doorway in space & time – Solar Eclipse on the Spring Equinox

tiwanakuMarch of 2015 may be a month to remember in years to come. Another corner is being turned during a very significant phase in our collective evolution. It may not become apparent in your personal life immediately but changes that take place over the coming weeks will have a big impact on the course of events into the future.

The first few days of the month set a positive trend to get us tuned into the possibilities as we build up to the Full Moon on the 5th and on into the second week before the Equinox and Solar eclipse.

The current freedom of personal expression theme is boosted by the big “feel good” planet Jupiter connecting favourably with liberating Uranus on the 3rd and assertive Mars joining with expansive Jupiter on the 10th

Both Venus and Mars are still travelling close together in early Aries and this gives a full steam ahead energy from Mars to reach out for what you want. Venus in this sign is less inclined to co-operation and wants to act in her own right, choosing what suits her rather than being compromising. They both combine strongly with Uranus and then move on to challenge Pluto. If you haven’t already made some bold moves to claim your independence then this will give you the required impulse to be true to yourself. This pattern will help to get a clear sense of what it is that you want for yourself without being prejudiced by others, your dependence on them or fears of losing their love or respect.

Uranus and Pluto have been in a tense square pattern since 2012 and after the 17th they begin to finally part company for at least a decade, having done their work The rebellious, liberating planet Uranus also represents our authentic self – the spirit of individual and unique self expression. Pluto always highlights a power struggle and signifies whatever has control over us. Pluto’s realm is our unconscious and our fears which are powerful forces that will divert us away from acting for the good of all, or even in our own best interests. We’ve been given a choice to either defer to a “higher authority” that we have ascribed power to, or, strike out with integrity and honour and take personal responsibility for our own lives.

The culmination of the Uranus Pluto theme mid month is followed by a combination of important and powerful astrological events. Just a few hours before the Sun enters Aries on the 20th at the Equinox it lines up with the Moon and Earth for a Solar eclipse. This is a New Moon event in the 29th degree of Pisces, the last degree of the Zodiac circle. Significant in itself as a completion of a Lunar and Solar cycle, it also combines with the 19 year eclipse cycle on the cusp of the most potent degree of the Zodiac. This is a very special and rare occurrence. The sign of Pisces is about surrendering to a greater force, letting go of trying to impose a self centred or “man made” order and trusting the apparent chaos of “natural”order to work it out – going with the flow. The final degree of this sign represents the last step in this process. The next step is into Aries as a new individual with nothing but the desire to experience oneself, no judgement or fear. Just faith and courage combined with innocence, excitement and passion.

The opportunity we have this month is to make real changes – on a personal level, in our relationships, identity, attitudes, and beliefs. Allowing the required inner changes to occur without having a pre-ordained goal is a challenge. The potential to become something beyond anything that your imagination can come up with is so strong now that getting very clear in your overall intent, then surrendering to the infinite possibilities that are available, seems like the very best way to make the most these circumstances.

Anyone who has a birthday in March, June, September, or December between 19th to 22nd may experience this potent eclipse more directly than others. Also if you have a  planet, Ascendant or Midheaven at 29 degrees of Pisces, Virgo, Gemini or Sagittarius you may feel the impact strongly.  A planet at 29  or 1 degree of any Zodiac sign in your birth chart may be triggered by this month’s solar events.

Also 14 &15 degrees of Aries and Capricorn are highlighted, so any planet or significant point there will be activated along with those same degrees in Cancer and Libra in particular.

Star gazing, the bigger picture.

I watched a fabulous Full Moon rising tonight and it’s conjunct Mars which is at it’s closest to earth now! I also took time to gaze at Venus and Jupiter, so bright in the west even as the sky was still light soon after sunset. The planets are putting on a wonderful show lately.

Seems the Sun is getting excited too!

Do you get the feeling that something is trying to attract our attention?

With all five of the “personal” planets visible there is an emphasis on all those traits represented by them, bringing those qualities to our attention by being so “in your face”

There is nothing quite like being able to gaze up to the skies and absorb the meaning of the benefics, Venus and Jupiter, by letting their light shine down on a clear night.  That’s how the ancients knew their meaning and message. In almost forgotten days before the demands of a modern world took our attention, when there was an abundance of time, quietly and patiently we observed what went on around us in nature and above in the heavens and it had meaning. In those long gone days, when we had time to “stand and stare” and waited long enough, we could see the patterns and cycles as everything in existence came into its fullness and then declined again. The ebb and flow, the growth and decay, the rythmns and seasons, they all came and went. They still do if you watch and wait long enough to notice.

In studying the movement of the planets through the heavens we become part of an ancient tradition, connecting to men and women of cultures and civilisations now lost and written out of the  histories by the victors in conquest. Through the ages, nations of people, busy determining their material security and ensuring their dominance in power, lost the art of gazing, watching, waiting and absorbing.

Through observing the patterns over time, somehow slowly and surely, a sense of what is constant emerges. The “truth” is there, the advice on what to do, the knowledge of how to be, the comfort, the reassurance, the peace.  It’s always been there and isn’t about to go away and if you take the time to stay quiet and still and humble for long enough you might just get to “hear” something that resonates with a deeper version of yourself. It’s a welcome contrast to the stress and worry, confusion and chaos of a world in which we are always trying to achieve something.

That’s what I sense to be in the message from the planets as they shine so brightly. It’s a reminder to look up and notice them, they’re awesome. And they’ve been there following the patterns and rythmns for a very long time and we have something to learn from them. Something about who we really are perhaps?

If it’s a clear sky you should be able to see these planets all through March. At dusk if you look to where the Sun has just set each evening and look up and to the left a bit you’ll see Mercury followed by Venus, Big and bright, and Jupiter just above.

As Venus sets in the west Saturn will be rising in the east.

Mars, for the next few of days is near the Moon, just ahead now, so look to the right and up a bit.

Happy gazing.

March Astrology News

The Moon begins its “New” phase in Pisces this month on the 4th. Along with the Sun three other planets are in that same sign putting a strong emphasis on all Piscean matters. As the last sign in the Zodiac, Pisces represents an end phase in the cycle. Its world is in a constant state of change and can seem disorganised and confused but this doesn’t mean that it’s less relevant. All physical matter has to change form to regenerate as something else. It’s an unavoidable theme of life and an essential process of demise and renewal. Pisces is the phase of disintegration in which identifiable forms dissolve into an amorphous state. This seeming chaos is necessary although to some quite unnerving. There are things beyond our control and outside our known world or “comfort zone”. We frequently fear what we don’t know or understand. The modern world often views chaos and disorder as a failure or breakdown in its system. Yet those familiar with the Piscean nature will be at ease. They know about a world which they can’t control and usually they don’t waste energy trying to make it any different to what it is. They “go with the flow” and trust in some higher order that’s beyond any apparent turmoil. With ever changing Mercury and combatant Mars in Pisces along with both the Sun and Moon as well as unpredictable Uranus, do try to remember this month that any lack of stability and order is an important transition phase. As the Sun reaches the vernal equinox on March 20 and enters Aries we mark the start of the new astrological year. This cardinal point is considered the most potent of all the 360 degrees in the Zodiac. This year the erratic planet Uranus is there, having just entered Aries on 12 March, where it transits until 2018. This sets the tone for the coming months, and ultimately the next several years. So what can we expect? The nature of Uranus is known by its unpredictability and ability to blow apart anything preconceived so you must expect the unexpected. In Aries, this will likely bring more conflicts, though not necessarily violent, as first steps are taken in attempts at establishing a new order. How this affects your personal life depends on where in your birth chart this critical Sun/Uranus conjunction falls. Astrological indicators tell of the current trends taking us into the next era. Although the signature of these times is one of revolution and upheaval we must remember that this is only because we just can’t continue along the same well trodden paths any more. When expansive and positive Jupiter opposes hard working, consolidating Saturn on March 28 we can begin to see some of the potential rewards to be gained from enduring adversity. This is the first of a series of beneficial Jupiter transits that we can look for ward to later this year.

March Full Moon 2009 lines up with Saturn Opposite Uranus

Full Moon creates the Sun opposite Moon “pull” which gives the monthly energy peak we’ve become accustomed to. “Full Moon madness” is well documented in science and medicine as heightened mental and physical activity experienced by many, often as restlessness and increased energy. This Full Moon is combined with the extra ingredient of the mighty Saturn Uranus opposition, now a hallmark of the current global disruption. The reflective Moon represents the mood of the masses as well as our own personal emotional or instinctual responses. In close contact with the sobering influence of Saturn we could easily find ourselves feeling a bit “world weary”. From lack of energy or resources we might be inclined towards simply maintaining the tried and tested, safe, secure, familiar lifestyle. In complete contrast the Moon, our mood, is opposed by Uranus, known for its disruptive influence. Expect to feel erratic mood swings or sudden changes of heart as situations present their many different facets. There’s still more to add to this stimulating planetary pattern. Our Sun is symbolic of the powerful life force that drives us forward whilst illuminating our world. Unsentimental Uranus frees us from the restraining dictates of obsolete habits, traditions and falsehoods. When the vitality of the Sun is closely combined with the dramatic severing energy of Uranus we have a very potent dynamic which can break through ingrained inertia. Their exact conjunction occurs on the 13th, prolonging the effect of the heightened energy over several days. Two weeks later, when the Moon has caught up and joined with the Sun once more at New Moon we can expect to have seen some changes whether minor or major, personal or global. As the Moon is “swallowed up” in the light of the Sun and becomes invisible to us at New Moon, both the great luminaries are joined by an assertive Venus in Aries. Use this influence to reassess what’s best for your own well being. Sort out your priorities and personal values. Then be prepared to communicate this new information to those who need to know as Mercury the messenger flits by both Venus and the Sun whilst being challenged by a strong angle from the Moon at the end of the month.

Easter Astrology – Spring Equinox

The yearly Calendar that is so familiar to us now has been subject to many changes over the centuries. The keeping of time requires complicated calculations and has been the cause of many disputes. Yet the Lunar and Solar phases are as important today for timing events as they have been throughout the ages. The next Full Moon falls on the day following the Vernal (spring) equinox which is when the day length is equal to the night. It marks the tropical Astrological New Year as the Sun enters the first degree of the Zodiac, the Cardinal, Fire Sign of Aries the Ram. Aries is traditionally ruled by Mars, (hence the name of the month “March”). This year it happens on March 20 at 05:49 am GMT. The cycle of death and rebirth of the new have been celebrated since time immemorial, on or around the spring equinox, which is why we celebrate Easter at this time. The date on which our Easter falls is determined by a complicated formula which generally means it falls on the first Sunday after the Full Moon which follows the Spring Equinox. This year, following the lunar cycle, Equinox coincides with the festival of Easter which falls three days later on the 24th March. Thankfully Moon Phases and planetary motion are easily recognised and occur with reliable consistency!

The next Full Moon is at 2° Libra on the 21 March at 6:40 pm

Eclipse March 2007

During this Full Moon in Virgo we see the first lunar eclipse of 2007. Depending on the local visibility that night we should be able to see the whole show. It begins at about 10:45pm as the shadow begins to pass across the Moon’s face and culminates at 11:20, finishing around midnight. The total event lasts 73 minutes which according to traditional astrology, means that its effect will continue for 73 months ahead, that’s until April 2013! Also interesting is, that it can be viewed from every continent around the world. An Astrologer will look at the eclipse path (where on the planet it can be viewed from) to see which countries are affected – so this one will have a global influence. The watery sign of Pisces is the setting for the March eclipses and we can expect to get wet, with high tides, more flooding and storms at sea all likely. Events are often triggered when a planet, especially Mercury or Mars moves across the eclipse point. Dates to watch are 30 March, 9 and 23 April, 13 May. At the Full Moon Eclipse we have revolutionary Uranus conjunct the Sun and North Node and expansive Jupiter forming tense squares to both the Sun and Moon. This can be a moment of great personal awakening. Potentially, events or ideas occurring now give us a new perspective or shake us up so we move beyond any limited thinking. Heads can no longer stay buried in sand. Expect rigid or fanatical religious and political beliefs in particular, to be challenged. The resistance to this need for change is what will be experienced in the coming months. Those who cannot embrace new possibilities and alternative solutions to current problems will try to hold on to what they value, sometimes resorting to force to uphold their convictions however outmoded or inappropriate. Collectively we are experiencing a crisis of confidence in our established social, religious and political structures. The March eclipses occur whilst the ongoing backdrop of Saturn opposite Neptune draws to exact for the 2nd time on 28 February. We can soon begin to search through the rubble of our old certainties to find a renewed faith in something more meaningful and sustaining to our weary spirits. The New Moon Solar eclipse on the 19th occurs just days before the Spring Equinox and heralds the start of a New Astrological Year. This Solar eclipse can only be viewed from eastern Asia and parts of northern Alaska and its effect lasts about 4 years. It occurs exactly in Square to Pluto, whilst Jupiter makes a favourable angle to Saturn suggesting there is much within our selves and others that will finally be released to be faced with honesty and non judgment if only we have the courage. Around us we will see more hidden truths coming to light and we wise up to those who are out for their own ends at all costs. Rather than leaving us with a sense of betrayal or despair we can use the insights and understanding gained to build a more solid foundation for the future where fair play and long term benefits are the underpin.

The next Full Moon is at 13° Virgo on the 3 March at 11:18 pm with the New Moon at 28° Pisces on the 19 March at 2:43 am
