Venus joins with Pluto & all Six Traditional Planets Precede the Sun – February Planet News

Sunrise2-cropJanuary seems to have flown by and we are into the shortest month, albeit with an extra day! It’s been hard to make any real forward progress with both Mercury and Jupiter retrograde for the first few weeks of the year. Mercury is now going forward again but there is still a sense of things being slow to get going. The planet that rules time and keeps our feet firmly, and sometimes frustratingly, on the ground is Saturn which has been having a strong influence lately.

Venus and Mercury remain in Saturn ruled Capricorn through early February, so use this time to get the plan together, write it down or communicate your intent. Venus is all about what, or who we want or like, appreciate, value and wish to include in our lives. She joins with Pluto on the 6th whilst making a hard angle to Uranus. Things could be intense in our relationships. Issues of money or personal resources can dredge up insecurity or the fear of lack.  But this is a day when we want the truth even if it takes us out of our comfort zone. This can be an honest self appraisal that gives the chance to break away from destructive habits. It’s a desire to hear the worst even if it shatters an idealistic dream so we can begin to build something more solid. This is just more of the “getting real” theme that weaves through our lives this year.

The early days of the month are also the best time, clouds permitting, to get a good view of all the traditional planets as they spread from East to West across the pre dawn sky. This is ongoing into the last week of February. The waning moon joins in the show until it passes to follow the Sun after the 8th. Visible, all at the same time, are Jupiter Mars, Saturn, Venus and Mercury.

Spread over several signs the planets don’t make any major connections to each other so its not especially significant on a personal level but it’s worth trying to spot them in the sky if you get the chance. On a more mundane level in traditional Astrology there is some significance that all the planets are rising ahead of the Sun, as if clearing the way for its appearance. The Sun would naturally represent the “king” or prominent ruler in world affairs, more commonly a politician in current times. Several significant world leaders are fighting to gain or regain political authority this year so this could reflect the rise of a leader on a path to power. In mystical terms the Sun or “king” can represent our own source of spiritual power or internal guiding force that is being given the focus now as it rises into a more dominant position in our awareness.

These first two weeks of the month gives us time to work out the details of any contracts or deals with Mercury’s help and get other people on board if they are showing willing. Take the opportunity to put it all together or at least get the outlines drawn out because the energy should shift by mid month when some real progress can be made at last. The Sun is currently in Aquarius and although this is still Saturn ruled it’s definitely a future oriented sign that wants to bring some really beneficial, and sometimes quite unique and original ideas into the world. When both Venus and Mercury move into Aquarius around mid month we could see some interesting possibilities being put forward and some of them might be worth going out on a limb for.

With several major planets mid sign this month the angles between them are easy and supportive. These lesser aspects can be helpful to give a boost even to the most challenging planets and so the second half of the month has this lighter, more flowing feel. The Sun moves in to Pisces on 19th  – a Jupiter ruled sign. Yes, we can finally breathe deeply and stretch out once more. We can look up and out for inspiration with the sense that clouds are lifting away and the horizon is widening at long last.

Capricorn New Moon, lets get physical – real world manifestation!

crescent moon

Let’s do something practical to really make the most of the Capricorn New Moon vibes. The New Moon is at 20° Capricorn on the 10th January at 1:31am (UT)

The first New Moon of the year falls in Capricorn, our sea goat sign, ruled by Saturn. New Moons are always a good starting point for any new initiative or direction and in Capricorn, a Cardinal earth sign, there’s the opportunity to really make some long term changes. When we decide we want to make life altering plans, or do our daily positive affirmations, or write lists of future intent, there has to be something more than just wishful hoping that it will simply all happen because we have declared it.

With the Sun Moon combination touching the Pluto Uranus square that still lingers with us, there is definitely the sense that so much more needs to shift if we are to live the life we prefer. Making changes isn’t an option – it’s essential! The first planet the Moon touches with its rays, after connecting with the Sun, is Jupiter in retrograde and next is that tricky Mercury also in retrograde. These two planets are re-treading old ground, renegotiating, redesigning and refining, making sure we have the full information and have definitely covered the details for when we finally discover that what we desire is coming in our direction.

Saturn, that planet that keeps our feet firmly on the ground, paired up with Venus for a couple of days, giving our Venusian desires a down to earth practicality. We want to include more of what’s both meaningful, and useful, now. Using the Capricorn way as an example, it’s time to reflect our desires in the physical world of stuff and things. Acting out our dreams, hopes or desires by doing something that represents the change we want to make, is very powerful. It doesn’t have to be the “big thing” all at once – just a gesture to the universe to say you mean it!

If you want world peace then take five minutes to sit or walk quietly without allowing the busy mind to interfere with you own inner peace. If it’s greater abundance you require then go around your house and count up the things you have already. If you want to kick a habit then just make a simple change, take a different route when you leave home.

Using the “making it real” energy that this January New Moon offers can really give your New Year optimism a very substantial and much needed boost.

May Planet Update – Beltaine, Full Moon in Scorpio – Passions run high

Planets15thCThe month of May begins with the celebration of Beltaine, a cross quarter day and fire festival which marks the halfway point of the Sun’s journey between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Although most commonly associated with Mayday and the 1st May the actual mid point falls a few days later – on the 5th this year. Many of the traditional customs that have survived through the ages represent a form of cleansing and re-seeding in preparation for the bountiful summer months.

With the Sun in the earthy sign of Taurus at this time of year the connection with our physical body and natural environment is very strong. At full Moon there is a culmination or peak in energy and because the Moon is always in the opposite sign to the Sun at the Full Moon phase, so we also have all the intense associations of Scorpio involved. Passions of all kinds can run high and emotions can go deep as a whole range of material, physical and practical issues come to a head. Whether this manifests as a satisfactory completion or a critical climax it is likely to be quite an event because Jupiter, known for it’s ability to exaggerate whatever it touches, is hitting a hard angle at both the Sun and Moon from fixed fire sign Leo. This Moon phase could highlight issues of individual personal expression as a human right particularly when it concerns any subject that has been considered a social taboo.

We can expect to have our beliefs and level of openness to new ideas challenged over the next few weeks as Saturn, planet of limitation and restraint is now in it’s retrograde phase, moving back to re-enter Scorpio in mid June. The small but powerful planet Pluto in Capricorn also turned to retrograde during April and will be in reverse until late September. This gives us the impetus to go back over some important and fundamental areas of our life. Looking at the systems, structures and supports which are no longer valid or sustainable, with a view to re-building or completely transforming what isn’t working well is the theme once more.

As the action planet Mars moves into Gemini mid month and confronts Saturn there will be an increase in the tempo of communications and information exchanges but it could be just a lot of “hot air” without the required will to follow through on any positive action.

The New Moon in Taurus on the 18th will bring us back to considering our core values and possibly a desire to indulge in the simpler things of life. On the 19th Mercury, in it’s own sign of Gemini and natural representative for all communications, travel and exchanges, turns to go retrograde until the second week of June. The emphasis is firmly on reconsidering, re-negotiating, revising and re-writing documents, travel arrangements, deals and trading. This provides an opportunity to edit, proof read or check the “small print” before we sign on the dotted line or embark on something new.

When Venus, ruling planet of Taurus, now in Cancer moves into exact opposition to Pluto on 22nd you may experience some resistance to your desires if they are just about fulfilling your own needs. The chances are that as Venus moves on to oppose unpredictable Uranus in Aries on 25th there may be the recognition once again that even excitement and high tension can become tedious and the simpler things of life can bring a longer lasting satisfaction so a deeper sense of nourishment can be enjoyed.

Astrology February 2015, Sun Jupiter opposition, Mars Venus conjunct & A Second New Moon in Aquarius!

SunStarDuring the first few days of February we have a cross quarter day, Imbolc, which marks the halfway point between winter solstice and spring equinox. With it we see a noticeable lengthening of the day that heralds the coming of spring in the northern hemisphere.

February has also become a time for romance and the expression of love with the modern celebrations associated with St Valentines day. This year the month certainly starts with a “feel good” boost as Venus the planet of love, attraction and beauty connects with Neptune in the sign of Pisces on February 1st. This combination gives a sense of well being in the area of relationships of all kinds. Any tension that has been ongoing during the past weeks, especially in close relationships, should experience a reprieve as the Neptune/Pisces influence encourages making those unions without the usual conditions or expectations about who we should, or shouldn’t, be for each other.

As the Moon becomes Full in Leo on the 3rd opposite the Sun in Aquarius they make a positive link to Uranus and the South node of the Moon. This Moon/Sun combination brings a bold statement and some welcome positive creative expression and the Uranus/Node connection adds the possibility of an unexpected chance to break out of past habits or situations for the better.

The Sun moves into line with the big planet Jupiter to form an opposition on the 6th. This yearly event puts Earth between the two creating a stressful energy combination in our solar system bringing strong weather patterns and additional volcanic activity. This year because Jupiter is closer than usual to earth it will be particularly bright in the night sky. Watch out for a good view as it rises in the East after Sunset and remains very visible all night.

The quicksilver planet Mercury has been slowed down by it’s apparent retrograde journey as it moves between earth and the Sun and resumes it’s forward motion, from earth’s perspective on the 11th. It should now be possible to resolve any communications, travel arrangements or transactions that were delayed, misplaced or problematic in the last few weeks.

A big feature of this months Astrology is the New Moon on the 18th. As the second New Moon in Aquarius this year it is unusual for that alone but it’s also falling on an especially potent degree on the very cusp of Aquarius and Pisces. Just a few seconds after the exact Sun Moon conjunction the Moon moves into Pisces followed a couple of minutes later by the Sun. This gives us the opportunity to focus on making a mental leap in our conscious understanding. Aquarius represents the wisdom of the unified, collective or divine mind. Using the potency of the New Moon as a “seed” moment we can attune to that level of knowledge to take us forward into the next phase as the Moon waxes to Full in the sign of Virgo next month.

If you still need to lift your spirits a little further a good view of Venus becoming brighter in the early evening sky just after sunset should help. Her beauty is enhanced by the first sliver of the crescent Moon as she moves into the assertive sign of Aries on 20th to pair up with Mars who entered Aries only hours earlier. Venus and Mars together are a passionate couple and Mars gets his way in his own sign, so expect some straightforward, unambiguous moves towards whatever is desired. The positive contact with Saturn during the last week of February will give a stabilising effect to these “love” planets so you can make the most of that feisty assertive energy without losing all common sense and natural caution.

This month the New Moon is at 29°59′ Aquarius on the 18th February at 11:48pm

June Astrology – Full Moon in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Cancer & Summer Solstice

This coming Sagittarius Full Moon on the 13th is not just for mythical four legged beasts to enjoy. The Moon is waxing to it’s full phase as we approach the culmination of the Sun’s northerly journey during the Solstice. The sign of Cancer, the natural home sign for the Moon, has extra significance this month and brings the Lunar energies to a peak.

The Solstice can be notedAstrolsunmoon astrologically as the moment the Sun passes into the first degree of the Zodiac sign of Cancer. (21st June at 10.52 UT) Representing the archetypal mother principal, Cancer is the sign of the nurturing feminine side of our nature. At the time of year when in the Northern hemisphere our crops and potential food sources are still vulnerable needing vigilant care to bring them to fruition, this sign oversees the process. The Cancerian nurturing theme can apply to all things that need tending, compassion and gentle attention to help them on towards fulfilling their potential, whether it’s children, plants, baby animals, relationships, projects, ideas or enterprises.

Whilst the Moon is in the sign of Sagittarius for only just over two and a half days the planet Jupiter which rules Sagittarius is in the Moon’s sign, Cancer over a period of about a year. When two planets are in each others home ruling signs astrologers call it a mutual reception and the planets involved have an enhanced effect.

Just to add to the impact of the Full Moon mutual reception, the Planet Jupiter is at the equivalent zodiac degree as the Sun/Moon position and forms a challenging quincunx angle which suggests some personal adjustment is required to reach the promise of the planets involved.

Jupiter rules over Sagittarius and represents our spiritual aspirations and urge to expand, seek greater knowledge, expose ourselves to new experiences, find fulfilment and generally enjoy being alive. He is particularly comfortable (exhalted) in Cancer where this warm expansive energy can be directed into personally meaningful endeavours. The Moon is our mood, our sensitivity, a longing for something familiar and inner security – it is our emotional life, our soulful side. At Full Moon that yearning or need for “connection” becomes temporarily satisfied as whatever has been increasing becomes fulfilled. At New Moon that impulse towards satisfaction starts building in intensity again. In Sagittarius the Moon is seeking some higher knowledge, or greater possibility. It wants to go where it hasn’t been before. The Sun in the opposite sign of Gemini is emphasising connections of the mental kind. Putting thoughts together and forming relationships between ideas or information.

Although this combination is not likely to set off a major event it can put an increased focus on the spiritually meaningful dimension in our lives. This peaking energy pattern could supply the opportunity to reach for your “life-path goal” along with the required impulse to make whatever adjustments are needed to bring it into it’s full potential. At least it is likely to bring some new understanding that will put you more consciously on the path of your soul’s journey or towards a deeply personal ambition.

If you’re familiar with your personal birth chart you can see which area of life is likely to be affected by these planetary dynamics by finding where the Sun, Moon and Jupiter fall in your chart during the Full Moon or New Moon phase.

Astrology of 2014 part two The Details

For an in depth overview of the major themes this year please read 2014 part one.

Note: This article appeared in the January edition of the West Cork People and some information from part one has been repeated in the first few paragraphs for clarification.

2014 – Through the Seasons

The New Moon on the morning of 1st January in the sign of Capricorn was conjunct the powerfully transformative Pluto. With most of the world’s population focussed on New Year resolutions and fresh starts, this introduction has really set a trend for the year ahead. Tuning in to the steady, organisational and practical skills of earthy Capricorn is helpful just to set you off on a steady and focused course during the challenging planetary dynamics of 2014. When Pluto gets involved with our lives he ensures that if change is required, it will happen. Sometimes we like the change and welcome it. Sometimes we resist it with every part of ourselves. Undergoing a painful operation or procedure can be the only way towards healing or greater freedom. Pluto has a job to do. Look where Capricorn falls in your own birth chart to know which area of life is getting some special attention this year. Expect to see the landscape change (metaphorically or literally) on every level during this year. In our physical external world and our metaphysical inner world there will be a noticeable move towards the new era that has been edging in over many years. In particular, our own thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and perspective will undergo a revolution over the next months.

2014 falls in the midst of a whole wave of planetary movements relevant to the massive change, upheaval, uncertainty and renewal that’s apparent around the globe. The major transits this year feature strong oppositions and square angles which bring conflict and confrontation between differing standpoints. On an outer level we’ll see this confrontational energy being manifest in every direction around the globe with war, extreme weather, anti- “something” protests, power struggles and opposition to just about everything. On an inner level we will be forced to confront ourselves and replace old beliefs with a new awareness.

Astrological hotspots will mean a particularly powerful year for some. If you were born during the first week of January, April, July or October or with significant personal planets in Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn, particularly if those planets are at 11-15 degrees you can expect this to be a momentous year. For those born during July or the first two weeks of August, this year is the high point in a 12 year cycle so you can watch out for welcome opportunities and be prepared to make some serious headway. The Fire signs, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius get a positive boost later in the year too.

For an in depth overview of the major themes this year please read 2014 part one.

Winter Solstice – Spring Equinox

Relationships of all kinds will be under the spotlight during the first quarter of 2014. Throughout January Venus is retrograde in Capricorn, so now you can take time to reconsider what is of lasting value. Midwinter festivities are over, life carries on and there are lean months to negotiate. This is especially felt whilst the Sun is in the Saturn ruled signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. More than other signs, Capricorn has a strong reputation for realism, sometimes called negativity, but pragmatism can be essential for physical survival. It’s the harsh realities of earthly limitations that confront us now. Stress is often felt wherever a change in approach or attitude is required.

Venus always brings relationships into focus and these early weeks will be a time to evaluate what’s worth pursuing or maintaining. It will highlight where there’s work to be done and effort required. But January is definitely not the time to make drastic major decisions or embark on a new romantic venture or pursuit. Use this month to review your inclinations but put off any action until after January 31st.

With Jupiter also retrograde until early March, issues of faith and belief will be tested. Going backwards through the sign of Cancer, the usually benevolent Jupiter, will highlight whatever is vulnerable or needing extra care and nurture in our lives. During late January until late February Jupiter makes a stressful angle with first Pluto and then Uranus as part of the build up to the Cardinal Cross of April. With Mercury also retrograde from the 6th to 28th February there is plenty of time to reflect on what has brought us to here. These months will demonstrate where an overly optimistic viewpoint has prevented people from facing up to a situation that is no longer sustainable. With Mars retrograde in Libra from March 1st until mid May there could be a sense of frustration as any forward movement is thwarted. During this time if sheer optimism or positivity has not improved a situation then it’s a sign to cast it off altogether and free up your energy for something new. At the spring equinox, as the Sun moves into Aries to start a new cycle on 20th March the energy builds in intensity as the planets move closer to form a Cardinal cross pattern.

Spring Equinox – Summer Solstice

The second quarter of 2014 holds some of the most significant astrological events of the year. Saturn in Scorpio is retrograde throughout this period whilst Mars maintains it’s retrograde in Libra until mid May. This is not the time to push forward on anything major. Allow whatever comes up for your attention to have significance but any assertive effort will almost certainly backfire on you or at least fizzle out as a non-event. There are still lessons to be learned from what occurred during the past few years and attempts to build up something new now is lacking the benefit of full hindsight. Endurance and patience are required. The best approach is to slow down, take it easy, and if you have any doubts, don’t do it.

Just hours after Pluto turns retrograde the first Lunar eclipse of the year occurs on 15th April with a Solar eclipse on 29th. During 20th – 23rd, Pluto, Uranus, Jupiter and Mars form a cross in the Cardinal signs, Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

The signature for this formation is freedom of the individual against the control of the state. Similar themes such as the autonomy of local economic systems against homogeneous global corporations will be apparent. On an international level expect this period to spark major events of revolution and rebellion.

A similar T-Square involving Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto during 1648 marked the English Civil War, which saw the demise of King Charles I and Cromwell’s rise. The same dynamic occurred during1793, at the height of the French Revolution.

The stress of the Grand Cross lingers through to early May during which time we have a Solar Eclipse in Taurus on 29th April. An eclipse works as a trigger point for themes which play out in the months to come. By mid May the recent intensity will ease as Mars starts his forward motion once more. Finally some positive progress can be made and this is supported by Jupiter as it makes a welcome trine angle to Saturn. Although this is not a complete turn around it does brings a sense of new optimism blended with practical solutions to implement the required next steps. Over the following weeks the mood is towards much soul searching and reaching for something meaningful from within. Mercury in reflective Cancer turns to retrograde on 7th June and Neptune, the planet of spirituality in otherworldly Pisces, turns retrograde on 9th June until mid November.

Assertive Mars, in people orientated Libra, is now making up for lost time when he makes another difficult square to Pluto in mid June. Expect a show of force as intentions are made clear. An agenda for action by some may well be in conflict with others who continue to hold on to control.

Summer Solstice to Autumn Equinox

On June 21st the Sun moves into Cancer marking the summer solstice. Having come through the difficult first half of the year we should now be well aware that situations and circumstances will not be returning to how they were in past years. We have passed through a point of no return. The disruption is still ongoing but it’s not neccessarily all disaster and destruction. Making positive changes and establishing patterns that contribute to a new way of being takes courage and a willingness to move beyond the comfort zone.

With Mars currently in Libra our drive is towards social relationships. On 25th June Mars opposes unpredictable Uranus in forthright Aries and this could bring more breaks than unions. This brings ongoing conflicts to a head once more as the urge to move away from restrictive situations is given another boost. When Mercury, in it’s own sign of Gemini, begins a forward motion again on July 1st it may be possible to open up some fresh dialogue or negotiations during the next few weeks. On July 16th the great benefic, Jupiter leaves sensitive Cancer and moves in to regal Leo where he stays for the next year. This move into Leo often coincides with a significant slump in the stock market though it also brings a period of increased opportunities and lucky breaks for the fire signs, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. This shift will also mark a point when the general trend is towards big and bold statements. When things happen it will be in a big or dramatic way. It’s also possible that those who are more confidant or have a greater sense of their personal power may outshine the “lesser mortals” in a race to the top. By mid July Saturn will begin forward progress once more to travel through the last half of Scorpio. Progress can now be made as the dark secrets and subversive behaviour of our governments or others in authority will be out in the public view whilst any attempts to assert manipulative controls will become obvious.

Uranus turns retrograde on 22nd July and Mars moves into it’s own sign, Scorpio on 26th. Mars goes on to make another challenging aspect to Jupiter and a supportive trine to Neptune in early August. Travelling at quite a pace Mars moves swiftly through to Sagittarius by 13th September. As it moves through each sign it brings an assertive energy. This can be helpful for anyone with a Scorpio or Sagittarius Sun if they want to tackle something difficult or challenging. Though it can also make them seem overbearing or argumentative if you are their obstacle!

Pluto turns to go forward on 22nd September bringing the focus away from inner personal transformation. Fundamental shifts have taken place and now the outer world will need to adapt to reflect a new perspective.

Autumn Equinox to Winter Solstice

The Sun passes into Libra to mark the Autumn equinox on the 23rd September and the nights lengthen into winter. The challenging stresses of the spring and early summer have taken their toll and we still have some way to go. The final quarter of 2014 starts with a positive powerful aspect between two giants in fire signs. Expansive Jupiter in Leo is trine a future orientated Uranus in Aries. Expect some uplifting developments or sudden revelations to offer welcome changes. Inventors or visionaries may come to the fore with ideas that will benefit us all. Whilst Mercury travels retrograde, from Libra back into Scorpio again, between 4th – 25th October we have a Grand Fire Trine formation and two eclipses. Between 5th – 8th October Mars, in the sign of the seeker Sagittarius, moves into position along with freedom loving Jupiter and Uranus to form a triangular dynamic. This Grand Trine is one of the most powerful and positive patterns and not only the fire signs will benefit. The Lunar eclipse Moon joins with Uranus in Aries on 8th whilst the Sun in Libra, at the same degree of the earlier Grand Cross, is flanked by beneficial Venus and the North node to form the apex of a kite pattern. How good can it get? This configuration speaks of invention, inspiration, expansion, motivation, revelation, great spiritual heights, positive social values and also brings in a sense of our collective destiny. Use these days to tune into some very special cosmic vibes.

A culmination of the tense Pluto/Uranus energies occurs when Mars joins with Pluto in early November. This could be expressed as a sudden release of power on a global level or a cosmic kick to old negative habits on a personal level.

The closing weeks of the year bring us the sixth of the seven squares between Uranus and Pluto on 15th December and further events along the same theme, breaking free from control, limitation and oppression are likely as we approach the winter Solstice on the 21st December.

As the year ends we will recognise that our world has changed since 2014 started. As individuals we will have changed too. Thoughts, beliefs, values, have all gone through some transformation and by the time we welcome in 2015 each of us may have lost something familiar but will have gained something of great value for the new era we are moving into.

Return to part 1

Star gazing, the bigger picture.

I watched a fabulous Full Moon rising tonight and it’s conjunct Mars which is at it’s closest to earth now! I also took time to gaze at Venus and Jupiter, so bright in the west even as the sky was still light soon after sunset. The planets are putting on a wonderful show lately.

Seems the Sun is getting excited too!

Do you get the feeling that something is trying to attract our attention?

With all five of the “personal” planets visible there is an emphasis on all those traits represented by them, bringing those qualities to our attention by being so “in your face”

There is nothing quite like being able to gaze up to the skies and absorb the meaning of the benefics, Venus and Jupiter, by letting their light shine down on a clear night.  That’s how the ancients knew their meaning and message. In almost forgotten days before the demands of a modern world took our attention, when there was an abundance of time, quietly and patiently we observed what went on around us in nature and above in the heavens and it had meaning. In those long gone days, when we had time to “stand and stare” and waited long enough, we could see the patterns and cycles as everything in existence came into its fullness and then declined again. The ebb and flow, the growth and decay, the rythmns and seasons, they all came and went. They still do if you watch and wait long enough to notice.

In studying the movement of the planets through the heavens we become part of an ancient tradition, connecting to men and women of cultures and civilisations now lost and written out of the  histories by the victors in conquest. Through the ages, nations of people, busy determining their material security and ensuring their dominance in power, lost the art of gazing, watching, waiting and absorbing.

Through observing the patterns over time, somehow slowly and surely, a sense of what is constant emerges. The “truth” is there, the advice on what to do, the knowledge of how to be, the comfort, the reassurance, the peace.  It’s always been there and isn’t about to go away and if you take the time to stay quiet and still and humble for long enough you might just get to “hear” something that resonates with a deeper version of yourself. It’s a welcome contrast to the stress and worry, confusion and chaos of a world in which we are always trying to achieve something.

That’s what I sense to be in the message from the planets as they shine so brightly. It’s a reminder to look up and notice them, they’re awesome. And they’ve been there following the patterns and rythmns for a very long time and we have something to learn from them. Something about who we really are perhaps?

If it’s a clear sky you should be able to see these planets all through March. At dusk if you look to where the Sun has just set each evening and look up and to the left a bit you’ll see Mercury followed by Venus, Big and bright, and Jupiter just above.

As Venus sets in the west Saturn will be rising in the east.

Mars, for the next few of days is near the Moon, just ahead now, so look to the right and up a bit.

Happy gazing.

Astrology Update September 2011

We start the month under the influence of the August 29th New Moon in Virgo. We can watch for the first glimpse of the slender crescent just after sunset if the skies are clear. Look for it above the horizon and just slightly to the left of where the sun set. The New Moon phase marks the beginning of the Lunar cycle which comes to its peak at the following Full Moon. This month it also falls in Virgo reinforcing the qualities of that sign. It’s a month for harvesting and reaping what we’ve sown as we move towards the vernal equinox on the 23rd. The last New Moon made a harmonious trine with both Pluto, the planet of transformation and Jupiter “the great benevolent” just as Jupiter slows to turn retrograde. It’s a time when we can make good progress in our journey towards greater understanding as Virgo lends us the qualities of discernment and refining, attention to detail, adaptability and determination. As Jupiter travels in retrograde until late December we internalise our urge towards expansion and superior knowledge and reflect on the greater meaning of recent events in our lives. The small but powerful Pluto which has been retrograde since early April turns to retread it’s steps through early Capricorn as it goes forward once more from the 16th. This release of energy might see a slow but deliberate change in the way we have been dealing with our “elephant in the room”. The reality of what was previously too painful or unacceptable to mention can no longer be ignored and has to be dealt with. We have though been on a journey and with these insights we now take a new approach and move into the final quarter of the year. The events in early August were a wake up call to what needs our urgent attention. Pluto came within one degree of the challenging square angle from Uranus which sets the theme for 2012 -2015. Pluto represents power struggles or control issues, taboo subjects as well as big business, corruption and dept. It also highlights the need to co-operate and share with another. It brings to light where we exert our personal will at the expense of others. The erratic planet Uranus encourages revolution and sometimes chaos as a means of breaking free from domination or erroneous values. The message from the planets show that we cannot continue to ignore what is creating stress in our lives. As we go through the next few years we will have to address situations where we’ve failed to take responsibility for our choices and use of resources or where we’ve offloaded the blame for our lack of physical well-being or inner peace on to someone else. This is a powerfully transformational period we’re entering and certainly not one to be afraid of.

Astrology News May 2011

This month we see a sequence of striking astrological events. The faster moving “inner” planets, Mercury, Venus and Mars take turns in making significant aspects to Jupiter early in the month. They then go on to make strong connections to both Neptune and Pluto in mid May. The month starts with six planets in Aries continuing on with the feisty and confrontational scenarios of April. Five of those planets form a close group, within ten degrees of each other, which creates a very strong focus of energy known as a stellium. Jupiter, as the slowest moving of the group, provides the central theme. Also known as the “greater benefic”, it moves us towards becoming something bigger and better than we are now. It represents the adventurer, the opportunist, speculator, explorer, student, visionary and seeker of truth. As each of the faster moving planets catch up and overtake Jupiter, they start a new cycle which will take 1-2 years to fulfil. As Mercury makes contact it will bring new information and ideas, enhancing connections and communications. Venus attracts good things, social occasions and pleasant surroundings whilst Mars raises the energy to get things done and confront issues. Under the Aries influence this is the right time to initiate new projects and pioneer the next phase of your life. How it will affect an individual will depend on where all this activity takes place in a personal birth chart. As Mars, Mercury, and Venus in turn enter Taurus between 11th and 15th they make a sextile (sixty degree) angle to Neptune. This supportive aspect helps to bring about the positive and visionary side of Neptune and also acts to dissolve boundaries thus making it easier to access our dreams and intuition. The same three planets then move on to make a trine (120 degree) angle to Pluto during 19th and 20th May. This advantageous contact to the “Lord of the Underworld” brings things into the light in a favourable way. Use the time to focus your will power on achieving your deepest and heartfelt desires. There is no better time to practice a determined and unbending intent on getting what you want. Be sure it’s above reproach though as there is always a price to be paid with Pluto if you attempt to win at the expense of another.
