Full Moon in Leo 14th February

fullmoonAs January retreats in favour of February the Moon phases also cycle through the seasonal signs. Throughout this year each New Moon is followed by the Full Moon in it’s opposite zodiac sign. A New Moon will influence the trend for the following weeks. As the light of the Sun increases it’s illumination of our satellite, until at Full Moon the whole face is visible, the process that was initiated in the previous zodiac sign is brought to fruition. On January 30th the New Moon in Aquarius connected with the planet Uranus. Aquarius is an air sign and represent the flow of information, knowledge and wisdom from the divine, or greater consciousness into the awareness of mankind. Uranus is the planet of liberation, individuality and originality. When it makes a connection it can bring innovative ideas, “eureka” moments and revolution. Some seed of knowledge or spark of inspiration has been germinating. New ideas, fresh thinking, or previously hidden knowledge will come to light as the Moon reaches it’s maximum in the Sign of Leo. The fire sign of the Lion represents creative, or heart based intelligence. Dignified and with the courage of spirit, Leo wants to express the power of creative energy. This coming Leo Moon reflects back the full light of the Aquarius Sun whilst they both connect with energizing Mars. This combination gives an added drive to the emerging new seed of independent thought. Finding the confidence to express your unique abilities, ideas and attitudes creatively and acting with integrity whilst doing it is certainly achievable this month.

The quicksilver planet Mercury which usually buzzes around the Sun at quite a pace seems to slow it’s rate to a standstill during the first week of the month. It appears to turn backwards for a retrograde phase on the 6th which continues throughout February. During these weeks any logical, fast, logistical thinking becomes problematic, whilst the intuitive and creative mind has free range. Our thoughts easily turn within and become more reflective. Rather than trying to meet deadlines, finalise contracts or keep up with the usual flurry of communication, take time to reconsider or pause to find a deeper level. More detail and added information is likely to emerge now so waiting until Mercury moves forward once more will avoid having to make extra changes or adjustments later to accommodate anything new.

As March begins we have the next New Moon, in watery Pisces, initiating the next phase. The big planet Jupiter, traditional ruler of Pisces, casts its supportive rays on the Sun Moon combination. This may not be a good time for getting work done or making great advances, especially as the action planet Mars, starts it’s apparent backward motion at the same time. But this gentle dynamic does bring a “feel good” vibe into the mix and a good opportunity to set out ambitious plans. Allow yourself to dream, let your imagination flow and reach for the “impossible”.

This month’s Full Moon is at 27° Leo on the 14th February at 11:54pm. The next New Moon is at 11° Pisces on the 1st March at 8:00am.

Astrology March 2013 – Mars in Aries-New Moon-Spring Equinox & the Comet

There are five planets and Chiron in Pisces at the start of this month. As the Moon conjoins Sun at the New Moon on 11th that makes seven in all and quite a watery line up. This strong Pisces energy suggests our attention is drawn away from worldly matters towards intangible realms. Considerations of a spiritual nature will be uppermost. It’s going to be difficult to focus on practical tasks, being organised, or anything that requires purely logical thinking. Until 17th March Mercury in Pisces, ruler of mental agility, is in its retrograde phase so it’s simply going to be more productive to “go with the flow” and use your heightened intuition to lead you. Relax and allow your dreams and non physical senses to guide you now as you’ll need to be rested and ready for action for when the planetary emphasis turns to Aries mid month.
Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac and brings the potent vitality of youthfulness and the spring season. Aries has the fearlessness, yet some would say foolishness, of someone who hasn’t yet learnt from experience. Always ready to meet a challenge, the Aries nature can seem confrontational or aggressive to some. The Aries character is so full of eagerness to get on with life that any obstacle or competition it encounters might just be mowed down in the rush forward, often before there is a chance to consider the full consequences.
On the 12th planet Mars moves into Aries, its sign of rulership, and is joined there by the New Moon. Feelings could run high with passionate urges to act on impulse causing disruption and offence provoking further defensive retaliation. Events now could start a phase of determined action or outright conflict that may take months to resolve.

Along with the New Moon making its appearance on the 12th and 13th there is the potential for a special and possibly spectacular event. The comet Pan-STARRS might become visible just after sunset in the western sky. It’s due to pass around Sun on 10th March and whilst being so close it will be hard to see in the solar glare. But just as the new slither of a crescent moon makes its first show on the12th we may get to see it close by. It’s too early to know if it will give a good display and also until it becomes visible it’s not possible to give any reliable astrological interpretation.

People born whilst a comet is visible are said to be destined to play a significant role in making sweeping changes during their lifetime. As so many babies are born each day there would have to be several other indicators in a birth chart to support this for them to have a real impact. In ancient astrology comets have traditionally been associated with bad omens or great events that apparently alter the course of history. As this comet, if it survives it’s journey round our Sun, is likely to appear with the new crescent Moon, in the early degrees of Aries and in close proximity to the planet Mars the indications are that it will be accompanied by some assertive action and be the start of a phase that will bring great changes to the world. We are already in no doubt that the entire globe is in the midst of huge social, economic, political and spiritual renewal, so the appearance of a great comet to mark the occasion is not really much of a surprise!

If you have a good view of the Western horizon and it’s a clear sky about 30 minutes after sunset you may be able to spot the comet near the New crescent Moon.

Astrology – February 2013

During these few short weeks of February we could see what’s called a “ game changer”. The month starts off with both Venus and Mars changing sign on 2nd February and Jupiter has just started forward motion once more. This brings a shift in energy and we may already be feeling the benefits. It can finally feel like we are making a new start and things are suddenly moving ahead now after slow progress since the turn of the year. Whilst Mars was in Aquarius, a fixed air sign, we would have come up against opposition to our ideas with confrontations over principles and plans for group projects. Now in Pisces, a fluid water sign, there should be a lot more flexibility and more sensitivity towards others. Venus has moved into Aquarius and this will add a co-operative or even altruistic dimension to our involvement with others thus making it easier to work towards the “bigger picture”.

Quicksilver, messenger planet Mercury joins with feisty, assertive Mars on 8th which will give us a sense of urgency to get the ideas out there. Expect some fast and furious communications to be flying around as news travels like wildfire. There could also be cross words and heated exchanges if the Picean tendency towards vagueness or ambiguity makes it hard to be clear or concise.

As we approach the New Moon in Aquarius on the 10th the sense of being in a global community or at least an awareness that we are part of a larger social group will come into focus. Though, with that Pisces Mars making a difficult square angle to giant Jupiter in the sign of the twins, Gemini, we may get some distorted versions of the background story during the next few days.
A new Moon sets the trend for the next weeks with the energies culminating at the Full Moon which falls in discerning Virgo on the 25th this month. As the Moon grows in size, so too might an emerging theme. The planet of structure and limitation, Saturn is currently in covert Scorpio and starts to make its apparent retrograde motion on the 18th. This brings issues relating to our organisations and social or political establishments into focus. Where it may have been hoped that unpleasant truths had successfully been swept under the carpet late last year, we will likely see them emerge again during the following weeks.
The Sun, having moved into in watery Pisces, also on 18th, joins with Neptune on 21st. This dreamy and ethereal combination has an almost “other worldly” feel to it. The mundane and purely physical will be hard to grasp and this is a time of peak experiences of the spiritual kind.
The theme of expanded connectedness continues as messenger Mercury also turns retrograde on 23rd bringing information, news, communications and the “bigger picture” to our attention again. As we reach the Full Moon phase on 25th Jupiter makes a challenging square angle to both Sun and Moon. Be aware that what occurs now is prone to exaggeration or likely to be blown out of all proportion for effect. As the month ends what we now know may have altered our reality but we also could be left wondering if we know the difference between reality and imagination.

2013 – The Astrological Highlights

The Astrology of 2013

Read more – Astrology of Solstice December 21st 2012

Saturn – Pluto

Saturn in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn will make three exact sextile aspects between December 2012 and September 2013. This pair are in mutual reception, (Saturn rules Capricorn and Pluto co-rules Scorpio) creating a supportive basis for the hard work involved in making necessary changes. This brings out the best qualities of these heavy duty planets providing some stability and allowing the use of will power to get through the more disruptive times.

Uranus-Pluto

The major astrological influence of our current time continues to be the square aspect between Uranus and Pluto. It first became exact during late June 2011 and will continue its influence until early 2016. I wrote extensively on this pair in the 2012 forecast and we’ll see more of the same effects throughout this year as it makes an exact angle twice, first on 20th May and again 1st November. This challenging dynamic brings revolution and power struggles which cause us to undergo a major shift of focus. Some people will have begun the shift already for others it will come later. “If we want to have freedom from material restraints (Uranus) we have to be purged of self importance and become honourable (Pluto). The struggle will be acted out on many levels as we are forced to face ourselves. We have to question what is really true and appropriate and what have we blindly accepted as a convenient or comfortable assertion.” Slowly as we become more conscious of ourselves and our motivations we will begin to see that whatever occurs in our world is a direct result of our own inner state of being. There will continue to be conflict and struggle in the world only whilst we are in conflict within ourselves. The peace and comfort we seek in the world will develop naturally as we cultivate a peaceful relationship with ourselves.

Saturn – Neptune – Jupiter

During the summer months we will see a series of trine aspects that culminate in a Grand water trine. This type of aspect is considered the most harmonious or beneficial and allows the planets involved to work easily together. Saturn in Scorpio made the first trine aspect to Neptune in Pisces in October 2012, the second is on 11th June and again on 19th July. On the 17th July Jupiter in Cancer moves into range to complete a triangular pattern known as a Grand Trine, in water signs. With Saturn representing “reality” and Neptune as the dream or illusory world ,we can bring the two together with ease. Be careful what you wish for! With Jupiter in Cancer adding to the mix expect an increased ability to manifest your desires and reach for the stars. Emotional responses can be exaggerated during this time but if you have honed your senses to be spiritually orientated this could even be a mystical experience. It’s important though not to let your imagination run wild as you may find you can be convinced of something that actually has no substance. At worst this could bring a spate of over zealous idealism.

Comets – Signs & Portents

This year we are told to expect two comets to pass close by and even be visible during the day light. The first should arrive by late February and remain visible during March whilst the second should be visible in the Northern hemisphere from October through to December. In traditional astrology a comet was considered a herald of major disruption to government or the fall of empires and kings. Until the comet makes itself visible it’s hard to predict it’s significance on a mundane level. We already know that this is likely to be a game changing year and the chances of there being major political upheaval is certainly on the cards. Meanwhile, we will have to, literally, watch this space!

Update February 2012

This lunar month started at New Moon on January 23rd coinciding with Mars beginning its retrograde motion. Whatever started then is likely to have an impact around the Full Moon on 7th February. This date coincides with Saturn going retrograde. Saturn and Mars are traditionally known as malefics and have a tendency to be troublesome. Although these planets represent essential drives and bring about plenty of beneficial outcomes, if their energies are expressed negatively the results can be far worse than with the other planets. When a planet is retrograde it’s hard to use the energy in a positive way so they are best accessed for reflection rather than action. Saturn rules over the corporeal world and represents the limitations of material reality.
In retrograde until late June, he will highlight issues with boundaries, restrictions, imposed borders, binding contracts as well as legal, social and religious regulations. Any attempts to enforce these might just be considered a line crossed, boundary breached or unfair discipline. It’s not a good time to push forward with a business contract, impose authority or create a new organisation. Use this time to question the existing arrangements and examine plans and proposals for areas that need review and renewal.
The next few months may seem like endless austerity and conflict. Repeatedly we see how things are just not working out the way they were intended. Whilst this might be our everyday experience there is something else occurring, not so noticeable but certainly both exceptional and profound. About every 164 years Neptune moves into Pisces. As one of the outer planets its journey through the zodiac is very slow taking about 13 years in each sign. Neptune moved into Pisces briefly in April until August last year but now it will stay there until 2025. The last time was between 1847 and 1862. The outer planets are evolutionary and mark time over generations. They affect us as a group and demonstrate deep and lasting social, political and spiritual change. To understand the significance of this event we need to consider the nature of Neptune.
At home in watery Pisces, it’s associated with the unified consciousness, our inter-connectedness and all that exists beyond the physical. It transcends and dissolves boundaries. Pisces represents both the material and spiritual co-existing. Finding the balance between the two is a hard art to practice. During this period we can expect to see a movement to more inclusion, less restraint and greater compassion. Existing boundaries, barriers, separation and segregation will be seen as an unnecessary fabrication when similarity and shared experiences unite people.
As Neptune blurs distinctions and recognisable definitions there may be confusion and disorientation. Some people will find themselves in a Neptunian state of denial and delusion as they try to maintain their personal vision of life. Over the next decade we will each need to choose whether to continue to accept what we are told to believe or begin to trust in our inner senses.

The next Full Moon is at 19° Leo on the 7th February at 9:54pm and the New Moon is at 3° Pisces on the 21st February at 10:35pm

The Astrology of 2012

The anticipation has built over years, maybe even decades, and now finally the year 2012 is here. “Is this the end of the world or civilisation as we know it?” It may be surprising to some that with such a focus on this particular twelve months, the coming year doesn’t really produce the earth shattering astrological configurations we’ve been led to expect. That’s not to say though that there’s nothing of significance being enacted in the heavens during 2012.

An Unfolding Story

A major part of an astrologers work is to study and translate the “story” that’s being told as the planets move through our skies making their aspects and alignments. An advantage the astrologer has through watching the “signs and portents” is that it becomes obvious there’s a continuous unfolding of events occurring in cycles and series that stretch out over differing periods of time. The Sun cycle takes about 365 days to complete, our measurement of a year. Our Moon has a 29.5 day cycle and this in turn has a larger pattern of about 19 solar years. Mars takes around two solar years, Jupiter twelve and so on. Pluto’s slow progress takes 248 years to complete one full turn. It’s from the idea that we are about to complete a very very long cycle that has given this year its apocalyptic status.
Much of the emphasis on 2012 comes from the Mayan long count calendar which covers a cycle of thousands of solar years. Calculations have suggested it will complete on 20 December 2012 with a new long count starting on 21st December. Others have claimed it ended on 28th October 2011. Although an Astrological event may take place at a specific time we experience the effect from the configuration of slow moving planets over several years. Within such huge eons of time an exact date becomes a minor issue and we are actually no more likely to notice anything tangible on those dates than we are at the Solstice or Equinox each year. What we are experiencing now though is the culmination of many cycles and the beginning of a new era. But as with the nature of time, it doesn’t all happen at once!

2008 -2011

The last few years have been dominated by several major configurations featuring planets in cardinal signs making stressful cross and T square formations, notably a series of five Saturn Uranus oppositions. From 2008 to 2011 we experienced a dramatic period of upheaval and a turning point for the majority of the world’s population in which the political, social, cultural, and economic challenges of the last decades reached a peak. Global financial, political and religious structures crumbled as systems of government failed the ordinary people they were meant to serve.

Uranus Square Pluto

By mid 2011, Uranus, planet of idealism and revolution had moved into Aries whilst Pluto, planet of destruction and renewal became firmly established in Capricorn.
The powerful effect of their interaction is seen in the great evolutionary upheaval they initiate amongst the various population groups around the world.
The influence of these outer planets on any of us as individuals depends on where they fall into our own birth chart.

These two heavyweights of transformation started to form a challenging square aspect during July 2011 and we got a taste of things to come. This volatile combination is the signature of the next few years.

The Uranian archetype is altruistic and wants unrestricted freedom of expression. It is innovative and breaks through the constraints of established order. Whilst in Pisces it was prey to self delusion and couldn’t grasp the truth amongst the smoke and mirrors. Now, and for the next seven years, it’s in feisty Aries and we have a call to action, confrontation too if necessary. It serves to overthrow complacency and disrupt the status quo. It may bring chaos and apparent anarchy which will be more difficult for some people than others, but this too happens regularly in cycles. It last occurred 84 years ago during the early 1930’s.
Pluto differs in its expression but also represents an archetype which ultimately works in the interests of our combined evolutionary development. Through the process of degeneration and decay something new can emerge. This is a principal of life and death and an ongoing cycle represented all around us. We often fear this undeniable force and attempt to control its effects but that only creates stress and often pain, emotional or physical. Eventually we all have to let go to a greater force. It has the effect of overthrowing personal agendas in favour of the “good of all”. The Pluto archetype is about a journey which somehow transforms us into something further along in our shared evolution. Whilst in Capricorn, Pluto will be at work on our structures, systems and organisations. Thus we see it working to undermine the control of governments, religion and the judicial systems. Everything that we have built up over time that has crystallised or fossilised, keeping us within its constraints, must now be broken down and rebuilt.

When the forces of Uranus and Pluto come together we can expect some rapid and comprehensive changes. The last powerful combination was during the 1960’s when there were mass demonstrations and social upheavals. There was a lot of experimenting with communal living, mind blowing drugs and anti establishment attitudes. Social norms were overthrown, rigid class divisions dissolved and the “modern” social era emerged.
This current square aspect is the first major challenge to the changes that came out of that social revolution. It first became exact during late June 2011 and will continue its influence until early 2016.
The challenge we have to face is rooted in our sense of individualism. There are serious questions to ask about our own personal integrity. It is rapidly becoming obvious throughout the world that those who we have entrusted with power are now exercising a very questionable authority. But it’s easy to see it in another person. During the coming years the spotlight will eventually turn inwards and we have to look at where we’re in conflict with our own standards of behaviour. If we want to have freedom from material restraints (Uranus) we have to be purged of self importance and become honourable (Pluto). The struggle will be acted out on many levels as we are forced to face ourselves. We have to question what is really true and appropriate and what have we blindly accepted as a convenient or comfortable assertion.
Human rights, individual freedom and choice will be confronted by those who desire to hold power. Suppression, force or manipulation is likely to be used in an attempt to achieve supremacy and we can choose to go along with it or not.
We can expect a build up of increasing pressure until sufficient power exists to crash through the established political, financial and religious structures and remove the outmoded ways of being, within them.
This time period will seem chaotic and disruptive but it is essential to clear away systems, governments and social divisions that no longer serve us. The next few years will be both exciting and confusing. We still don’t know exactly how things are going to take shape and there may have to be several changes before it settles into something workable. Focusing on personal integrity, core values and removing obstacles to social co-operation within your community will help keep you connected to something dependable.

Rare Occultation of Venus

Another completion takes place this summer echoing the theme of new beginnings. On 5th June Venus passes over the Sun at 15 degrees Gemini, in what’s known as an occultation. As with an eclipse the planet passes in front of the Sun and can be observed from earth, a phenomenon occurs in pairs about eight years apart approximately every 121 years. Previous occasions have been 1631, 1639, then 1761, 1769, followed by 1874, 1882. The first of the current phase was on June 8th 2004. This once in a lifetime event often coincides with a period of social and economic reformation and is the herald for a new set of personal and social values. The last few years has seen a shift in values of all kinds, personal yes, but also financial and with how we relate to physical resources like food, water and land use.

Venus, goddess of love and beauty and planet of attraction tells us about what we value. We have an innate desire to interact with others and to be attractive and desirable so we can “belong” to a social group, partner or family. She uses the energy of attraction to bring what we value to us through a kind of magnetism of likeness. When Venus joins with the Sun in such a spectacular way their energies are combined and it’s as if Venus becomes infused with the brilliance of the Suns power, like a light getting turned on, in a big way. It’s as if the Sun, our solar heart, is imparting its message through our social values. The expression “hearts desire” comes to mind with this symbolism and I would expect that whatever yours is, it will be magnified by this conjunction. If you want to know what your true hearts desire is then take time during this rare event to tune in and find out. In Mercury ruled Gemini the emphasis is on communications and making connections. We could see a change in the way we use social media this year. Venus also makes a square to Mars and this event will bring to light the methods used to get what we want and at what cost on a deeper personal level. Expect to experience a heartfelt reaching out to others in direct challenge to those who choose conflict as their form of communication.

Neptune in Pisces

The third major influence this year is Neptune starting a 13 year journey through its own sign, Pisces. It’s been in Aquarius since 1998 and made a temporary move into Pisces from April to July 2011 when we got a taste of its potential. Neptune is another of the evolutionary planets and acts to break down barriers and dissolve physical boundaries that divide us. The sign of Pisces is the last in the Zodiac cycle and represents the return to a spiritual state beyond material limitations. Its territory is the realm of dreams and mystical experience as well as chaos and disorder. At worst we will be prey to deception or a refusal to accept stark realities preferring to remain in a comfortable denial. Potentially though, we can expect a growing wave of compassion and upsurge in yearning for connection with our spiritual home. The principals of brotherly love and human kindness are easily characterized in this combination.

Inevitable Change

2012 is probably the year when we finally see that real and profound changes are taking place. It’s happening so fast now that we cant fail to notice. This is a necessary change because we’ve gone as far as we can down a particular path and the systemic problems are deep and entrenched. The very way people relate to each other will need to evolve before the transformation is complete. The next few years will teach us some hard lessons but humanity will survive. What’s happening now will teach us that individual survival is dependant on co-operating with each other, not opposing, or controlling, but through mutual respect. It will also become apparent as we re-organise our societies that everyone will need to take equal responsibility for the society we live in and it can no longer be delegated to someone else. Humanity is about to “grow up”.

“Become the person who you would like to have around if your well being depended on you” (Anonymous)

2012 The year ahead for Ireland

Using the 1949 chart for Ireland we can see that transiting Saturn opposes the Sun and Venus from late December 2011 until late September 2012. This is certainly going to make any financial progress hard work and we can’t expect the prospect of renewed prosperity, or regaining independence from higher authorities yet. Property prices are likely to continue to devalue. Saturn restricts and delays whatever it touches so any declaration of economic recovery can be dismissed as spin or misplaced optimism.

As Saturn passes through an area of Irelands chart which represents our outer image or political status it shows that national reputation and autonomy is compromised and we’ll see further restraints on the way the state can operate. The low points will come during late December 2011, late March and mid September.
Saturn’s job though is to make sure we have put down a solid foundation for building on in the future. It teaches us the hard way by making us face the sometimes stark reality we have been avoiding and we finally realise no one else is going to take the responsibility for our future.
During March and April there could be a serious disquiet and upheaval. We can expect to see strong opposition to the government and maybe even a sudden change in the ruling power or state. This influence emerges again in November around the time of the lunar eclipse so if we haven’t already seen changes in government then this might be the time.
Saturn moves into Scorpio in October and as the emphasis changes we could experience isolation from other countries and perhaps find that getting support from abroad is harder to achieve. We may find we have more firm restraints placed on us from abroad.
The Uranus Pluto square directly affects the area of the chart which represents Ireland’s economy and financial policy. It may take several years before we see the financial sector working in favour of the ordinary people. It is quite likely that the ruling government is at “war” with the people during this period.

This year we’ll experience increasing disparity between those who believe in taking and holding the power, wealth and control for their own personal enhancement and those who choose to share power and resources, contributing to the well being of others and trusting in them as a sustainable way of ensuring their own long term well being. Two very different approaches to taking care of oneself.

March Astrology News

The Moon begins its “New” phase in Pisces this month on the 4th. Along with the Sun three other planets are in that same sign putting a strong emphasis on all Piscean matters. As the last sign in the Zodiac, Pisces represents an end phase in the cycle. Its world is in a constant state of change and can seem disorganised and confused but this doesn’t mean that it’s less relevant. All physical matter has to change form to regenerate as something else. It’s an unavoidable theme of life and an essential process of demise and renewal. Pisces is the phase of disintegration in which identifiable forms dissolve into an amorphous state. This seeming chaos is necessary although to some quite unnerving. There are things beyond our control and outside our known world or “comfort zone”. We frequently fear what we don’t know or understand. The modern world often views chaos and disorder as a failure or breakdown in its system. Yet those familiar with the Piscean nature will be at ease. They know about a world which they can’t control and usually they don’t waste energy trying to make it any different to what it is. They “go with the flow” and trust in some higher order that’s beyond any apparent turmoil. With ever changing Mercury and combatant Mars in Pisces along with both the Sun and Moon as well as unpredictable Uranus, do try to remember this month that any lack of stability and order is an important transition phase. As the Sun reaches the vernal equinox on March 20 and enters Aries we mark the start of the new astrological year. This cardinal point is considered the most potent of all the 360 degrees in the Zodiac. This year the erratic planet Uranus is there, having just entered Aries on 12 March, where it transits until 2018. This sets the tone for the coming months, and ultimately the next several years. So what can we expect? The nature of Uranus is known by its unpredictability and ability to blow apart anything preconceived so you must expect the unexpected. In Aries, this will likely bring more conflicts, though not necessarily violent, as first steps are taken in attempts at establishing a new order. How this affects your personal life depends on where in your birth chart this critical Sun/Uranus conjunction falls. Astrological indicators tell of the current trends taking us into the next era. Although the signature of these times is one of revolution and upheaval we must remember that this is only because we just can’t continue along the same well trodden paths any more. When expansive and positive Jupiter opposes hard working, consolidating Saturn on March 28 we can begin to see some of the potential rewards to be gained from enduring adversity. This is the first of a series of beneficial Jupiter transits that we can look for ward to later this year.

August 2008 Eclipses

The New Moon Solar Eclipse in Leo on Friday 1 August signifies a time of beginnings, new directions, finding a new way of operating in the world or the opportunity to re-invent our selves. Things, people, habits and beliefs that need to change can do so now. The seeds of the current phase of change were sown earlier this year when we saw the Solar eclipse in Leo’s opposite sign of Aquarius in February. Since then our awareness of the issues facing the global community has increased. The urge now, prompted by the August eclipse cycle, will be towards a more humanitarian or inclusive approach to these common issues. A new understanding of our social role and the effect we have on others shows us that we can no longer operate in isolation. The eclipse prompts us to let go of established outworn ways whilst we adjust to the demands of the future. As the Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse of 16 August approaches we can establish the new pattern in a more tangible or practical way. Those feelings, ideas, inspirations or ideals that have been brewing over the last few weeks can now be put into action. By the time the second New Moon of August comes around on 30th we will have seen a turning of the tide as many old ways are washed “under the bridge” allowing for transformation and a fresh start in various areas of life.
In Astrology the eclipse path or locations of visibility have special significance for timing of events as these regions are often affected by the influence of the eclipse on a national level. Expect August to be quite a busy month as you watch international news headlines unfold. Traditionally an eclipse heralds a major political, economic or other momentous upheaval. The August Solar Eclipse is total but can only be seen from northern Canada, Russia and parts of China. There may be violent clashes of will when leadership is challenged as some individuals make a bid for freedom under the influence of Mars as it opposes Uranus on 6 August. The Lunar eclipse which can be seen from South America, Western Europe, West Africa, East Asia, Australia and New Zealand traditionally influences internal or domestic affairs. It coincides with several aspects to Pluto which brings hidden things to light, unblocks obstacles and transforms what it touches. Neptune is also involved which suggests, glamour but also deception whilst a trine angle between Jupiter and Venus is very fortunate, bringing luck, great gains and favourable outcomes!

The next New Moon is at 10° Leo on the 1st August at 11:32am. The August Full Moon is at 24° Aquarius on the 16th at 10:18pm and the second New Moon of August is on the 30th at 8:59pm at 8° Virgo.

Solar Lunar Eclipse

Eclipses happen every three months and always come in pairs. Last month we had the second Lunar Eclipse of 2007 at 5 degrees of Virgo-Pisces on August 28. On September 11 at 19 Pisces we experience the second Solar Eclipse of the year. Its visibility is confined to parts of South America, Antarctica, and the South Atlantic. Both eclipses will shut some old ways of life down forever (as all eclipses do), leaving us opportunity to embrace the new and everything that we’ve prepared for up to now. Although all Eclipses take things away, this one should be harmonizing and balancing. We’re all about to be educated on a practical level, learning through forms of “right actions”. Saturn’s entry into Virgo on September 2 coincides with a trine of Saturn to Pluto that helps to facilitate change and transformation. On an individual level Saturn in Virgo is ideal for you to review your daily life and determine if your life reflects who you are. Take a long, slow look at the way you organize your life, from thinking processes to daily habits. Increase health awareness, and generally clean up your act. Its critical faculty works best where organization, system and order are required, but not at the expense of your spirit. Adding to the picture, two planets will change direction during this month: Pluto turns direct at 27 degrees Sagittarius – one degree away from galatic center, on September 7; and Venus turns direct at 17 degrees Leo on September 8. Pluto, the Lord of the Underworld is the planet that most represents the eternal cycle of death and rebirth. Venus is the feminine aspect of the divine. She represents our values and the qualities of life that will make us happy. She describes our ability to be receptive and vulnerable. These two days represent the nexus for the most intense period during this month. Transformational events frequently happen during Pluto stationary times; Venus being stationary adds to the intensity of the pre-eclipse period.

The next New Moon is at 19° Virgo on the 11th September at 1:45 pm
