September 2012 Astrology, Mars in Scorpio, New Moon choices & Uranus squares up to Pluto

This is the month of the autumn Equinox, when the day and night are of equal length. Falling on the 22nd the Sun enters the Sign of Libra at 3.49pm (GMD). As the nights begin to lengthen and we head towards the winter Solstice many personal and global issues will be brought into focus.
During September the feisty, action oriented planet Mars is traveling through the intense sign of Scorpio. As the traditional ruler of Scorpio, Mars is easily able to act out his true nature here. Always looking to see where he can get the advantage, gain ground, defeat the competition or achieve his desires, Mars is the thrust and drive behind our personal assertion in life. The nature of Scorpio is transformation at it’s deepest level, and Scorpio really does go deep. Whatever falls under the power of this sign is in for a journey into “the pits” and back. During this process of being taken into the symbolic underworld where the worst in human nature can be found, something alchemical occurs and what once seemed so “bad” is now found to be “good”. Use the forceful and determined energy of Mars to seek for the positive outcome which is always contained as a potential in even the most extreme and seemingly disastrous experiences.
As the Moon wanes in the light of the Virgo Sun and disappears from view we are inclined to move our focus inward to become more reflective. When the Sun and Moon combine at New Moon on 16th the facets of the self represented by these “luminaries” are also blended. Our outwardly projected personality which is illuminated and enlivened by the life force from within, is the Sun’s concern. Our impressionable and emotional nature is the realm of the Moon. When both are temporarily melded together we can act irrationally or emotionally from conditioned responses and unconscious fears. Alternatively we can draw from an intuitive knowing or inner strength and act with calm equanimity. With the influence of Virgo behind this New Moon the choice is to be either hyper-critical and quick to judge or to perceive the potential for perfection and strive to exemplify it.
Being aware of this choice in attitude or expression is even more crucial now. We move into the last quarter of the year following the second exact square aspect between Uranus and Pluto which occurs on the 19th.
This difficult and challenging dynamic between two outer planets sets the general tone and continues in the background during the next few years. As they square up to each other the established order of corporate affairs and control through economics is challenged by a need for complete overhaul and a radical departure towards more individual freedom of expression and autonomy.
Through Pluto’s influence during these next weeks it will become more apparent than ever that those people who power has corrupted are unable to act with any personal integrity. The challenge of Uranus is for each individual to free themselves from bias, prejudice and covert collusion so that personal action and decision can be made without the constraints of fear and confusion.

Astrology Update September 2011

We start the month under the influence of the August 29th New Moon in Virgo. We can watch for the first glimpse of the slender crescent just after sunset if the skies are clear. Look for it above the horizon and just slightly to the left of where the sun set. The New Moon phase marks the beginning of the Lunar cycle which comes to its peak at the following Full Moon. This month it also falls in Virgo reinforcing the qualities of that sign. It’s a month for harvesting and reaping what we’ve sown as we move towards the vernal equinox on the 23rd. The last New Moon made a harmonious trine with both Pluto, the planet of transformation and Jupiter “the great benevolent” just as Jupiter slows to turn retrograde. It’s a time when we can make good progress in our journey towards greater understanding as Virgo lends us the qualities of discernment and refining, attention to detail, adaptability and determination. As Jupiter travels in retrograde until late December we internalise our urge towards expansion and superior knowledge and reflect on the greater meaning of recent events in our lives. The small but powerful Pluto which has been retrograde since early April turns to retread it’s steps through early Capricorn as it goes forward once more from the 16th. This release of energy might see a slow but deliberate change in the way we have been dealing with our “elephant in the room”. The reality of what was previously too painful or unacceptable to mention can no longer be ignored and has to be dealt with. We have though been on a journey and with these insights we now take a new approach and move into the final quarter of the year. The events in early August were a wake up call to what needs our urgent attention. Pluto came within one degree of the challenging square angle from Uranus which sets the theme for 2012 -2015. Pluto represents power struggles or control issues, taboo subjects as well as big business, corruption and dept. It also highlights the need to co-operate and share with another. It brings to light where we exert our personal will at the expense of others. The erratic planet Uranus encourages revolution and sometimes chaos as a means of breaking free from domination or erroneous values. The message from the planets show that we cannot continue to ignore what is creating stress in our lives. As we go through the next few years we will have to address situations where we’ve failed to take responsibility for our choices and use of resources or where we’ve offloaded the blame for our lack of physical well-being or inner peace on to someone else. This is a powerfully transformational period we’re entering and certainly not one to be afraid of.

Saturn in Virgo conjunct New Moon September 2009

September is traditionally the month of the harvest. Both Full and New Moon phase occur in the sign of Virgo who is associated with the goodness of the earth and the Goddess as nurturer of life. The Sun leaves Virgo on the 22nd and moves into Libra as it passes the equinox point heading for the Midwinter Solstice once more. This month’s big story though is Saturn conjunct the Sun/Moon at New Moon on the 18th combined with the opposition between Saturn and Uranus which is exact again on the 15th. This opposition has been the backdrop to current events for the last year and will continue through to autumn 2010. The first exact opposition was on November 4 2008, the day of the latest US elections. This month sees the third of five exact “hits” at 25° Virgo/Pisces. People with personal planets in that area of their chart will be strongly affected. We will all be touched by this influence and the area of life where it will be most apparent is wherever that degree occurs in our birth chart. Saturn will often make us sharply aware of reality and can sometimes seem harsh or negative, bringing us back down to earth with a thump. Saturn reminds us of our responsibilities but also gives a reliable stability in what otherwise could be confusion or chaos. Uranus, the opposing force is known for its rebellious and unpredictable influence yet helps us to break out of limiting restrictions. The last sequence of Uranus/Saturn oppositions during 1965-66 gave rise to a cultural revolution. Perhaps we can already see the emergence of a new set of social values that will be the current legacy. The New Moon is always the beginning of a new phase, an inward, reflective time out of which the next phase is born. On a personal level whilst Saturn joins with the Sun and Moon we may need to take time to reflect on our true responsibilities and allow the possibility of renewed commitment. We might get the feeling that we are in for the long haul and that might seem daunting at first. Saturn can also remind us that some of the most valued experiences or successes have taken a long time to manifest, evolve or mature. Like the seasonal harvest a lot of preparation, hard work and personal investment are involved to reap true rewards. The nature of Virgo is to work diligently, ironing out any flaws and nurturing her venture into maturity. With Uranus urging us on to abandon old ways and take a new approach we must remember all great visions for a better future need the careful planning and dedication to a task that the Saturn in Virgo combination is offering us now.

The Month of September brings us the Harvest Full Moon and the Autumn Equinox. This is traditionally the time for gathering in our crops. With long hours worked under the light of the Full Moon we reap the result of our investment made during the spring. Since April and May this year things have been tough going. Pluto and later, Jupiter started their apparent retrograde (backward) motion. During this time we have also seen the apparent backward slide in political relationships and the global economy. (Dare I even mention the weather!)If you’re still waiting on projects to get off the ground, plans to be solidified and progress to be noticed in your personal endeavors then this waxing September Moon might see the floodgates of change finally released. This is also true in mundane matters that affect the larger community. We will see a lot of fast and furious planetary activity early in the month with Jupiter changing direction and starting the ball rolling on the 8th. Jupiter then makes a challenging angle to Saturn on the 9th which is a prod to work on the practical reality of getting our hopes and plans into a feasible form. Taking responsibility for our growth and forward direction over the next few months is key to this planetary aspect. But this should help give a down to earth approach to reaching goals. Also on the 9th Pluto changes direction and slowly moves forward again gathering its momentum in the coming weeks as it heads into Sagittarius. This could bring a release of new and transformative energy needed for us to evolve. As the Moon approaches full it encounters Uranus which has just had a head on clash with the Sun. Uranus is a “wild card” and we never know how it will be played. The energy can be electrical and it can wake us up from any unconscious slumber we have fallen into particularly on the larger scale of maintaining the social status quo in favour of radical and necessary change. Both Venus and Mercury make an easy trine to Neptune around the 17th to 20th – a good time to imagine the very best and reach for the stars. Just don’t be fooled into believing all is good whilst actually being deceived, by your self or others!

The Autumn Equinox occurs on the 22nd as the Sun passes into Libra and feisty Mars connects to the oceanic Neptune giving you the chance to act on your wildest dreams. Remember that belief and deeds go hand in hand towards success. As a finale for the month Mercury goes retrograde (apparently turns backwards) which gives us the welcome chance to reflect on the changes we’ve just witnessed.

The next Full Moon is at 23° Pisces on the 15 September at 10:14 am and the next New Moon is at 7° Libra on the 29 September at 9:13 am

You find that you are able to bring more imagination to bear on your goals and ambitions now and that you have the drive to improve your finances and material security. You are able to be at your most compassionate and understanding when it comes to accepting and dealing with other people so all your relationships benefit from this.

Pisces

This Full Moon finds you feeling like getting together and enjoying the social scene. You may not get a lot of support for the way you express your basic energy and drive as you tend to go against the crowd and somehow manage to create reverberation in those around you. Some may even find you overbearing, as your intensity runs counter to whatever’s wanted by them. You find your ambitions are backed up by the will to get things done. If you can avoid a very personal and reactionary response you may find you’re appreciated & appear in a good light in any group project or social gathering.

Solar Lunar Eclipse

Eclipses happen every three months and always come in pairs. Last month we had the second Lunar Eclipse of 2007 at 5 degrees of Virgo-Pisces on August 28. On September 11 at 19 Pisces we experience the second Solar Eclipse of the year. Its visibility is confined to parts of South America, Antarctica, and the South Atlantic. Both eclipses will shut some old ways of life down forever (as all eclipses do), leaving us opportunity to embrace the new and everything that we’ve prepared for up to now. Although all Eclipses take things away, this one should be harmonizing and balancing. We’re all about to be educated on a practical level, learning through forms of “right actions”. Saturn’s entry into Virgo on September 2 coincides with a trine of Saturn to Pluto that helps to facilitate change and transformation. On an individual level Saturn in Virgo is ideal for you to review your daily life and determine if your life reflects who you are. Take a long, slow look at the way you organize your life, from thinking processes to daily habits. Increase health awareness, and generally clean up your act. Its critical faculty works best where organization, system and order are required, but not at the expense of your spirit. Adding to the picture, two planets will change direction during this month: Pluto turns direct at 27 degrees Sagittarius – one degree away from galatic center, on September 7; and Venus turns direct at 17 degrees Leo on September 8. Pluto, the Lord of the Underworld is the planet that most represents the eternal cycle of death and rebirth. Venus is the feminine aspect of the divine. She represents our values and the qualities of life that will make us happy. She describes our ability to be receptive and vulnerable. These two days represent the nexus for the most intense period during this month. Transformational events frequently happen during Pluto stationary times; Venus being stationary adds to the intensity of the pre-eclipse period.

The next New Moon is at 19° Virgo on the 11th September at 1:45 pm
